Cycling Centre of Excellence

Cycling Ulster officially launched its first Centre of Excellence on Wednesday 26th. In front of representatives from Cycling Ulster, Cycling Ireland and NI Sports Council, Frank Campbell presented the award plaque to local mayor Jonathan Bell. The launch of the site ties in with the commencement of a seies of skills programmes for school children in Craigavon and 3 other sites over the next few weeks. In Craigavon alone 250 kids will take part over the next 6 weeks.… Read more

Evans Wins Phoenix GP

Tommy Evans guesting for Total Cycling soloed home today to win the Phoenix Grand Prix at Nutts Corner which attracted the biggest Northern field of the season so far with 105 entries.
The field was split into four groups with the Over 50 vets and 1st year Junior receiving a 6 minute advantage on the scratch men. It was insufficient, however, with the whole race coming together at the half way stage. On the second last lap a group of 11 got away.

Evans left the group in the closing miles to finish 28 seconds ahead of Paul Kane.… Read more


Ward Wins Ards

Twenty one year old Matthew Ward of Phoenix CC scored his biggest success to date when he won the won the prestigious Tour of Ards outsprinting Brendan Doherty (Total Cycling-Lindsay Ford) at the finish.

Ward and Doherty were part of a seven man breakaway which left the main bunch of 78 at Bangor the other 5 being Roger Aiken (Banbridge), Gary Cranston (East Antrim - Audi) , Ross Blayney (Ards CC), Brian Stewart (Northern - Dave Kane) and Denis Eason (Total Cycling - Lindsay Ford).

St Patrick’s Day Victory for Gallagher

Keith Gallagher (Orchard Wheelers) celebrated Saint Patricks's Day with a super win at

Downpatrick in the annual handicap road race promoted by the Ulster Cycles Promotions Club.

The event attracted 89 entries with the categories separated by four minutes and three and a half.
Veteran Jim McConnell (Audi- East Antrim) attempted his now familiar tactic of going from the gun to make full use of the advantage and along with fellow Vet Norman Campbell (U/A) and 3rd Cat John Nelll (Team Madigan) this trio stayed out front for 11 of the 12 lap race.… Read more


Tour of Mallorca Team

Cycling Ulsters coaching committee have announced a team for the forthcoming Tour of Mallorca between April 2-6th. The team consists of 4 under23s and 2 elite riders providing a balnce of experience and development. The team is,
Stephen Gallagher (Endura) now riding professionally with the 3rd division team on the continent Stephen finished 3rd in Navan and will provide experience in a young team.
Brendan Docherty (Total Cycling Lindsay Cars) Big Doc has showed good form this year finishing 2nd in Drogheda and has rode the Mallorcan Tour on 3 previous occassions.… Read more


Cycling Ulster Centre of Excellence

In line with a 3 year development plan which commenced in 2002, Cycling Ulster are delighted to announce that Craigavon Watersports Centre in Co Armagh has been designated an official cycling Centre of Excellence. The Centre met all criteria set down by Cycling Ulster and has been involved in the development of cycling in the region for a number of years. Both the facilities and the local cycle friendly infrastructure lend the Centre to be at the forefront of cycling development for many years to come.… Read more


Margaret Proves She’s A Lady

Margaret Curran Of Omagh Wheelers proved her worth when she lined out on Sunday 16th March for the Mc Cann Cup. The courageous lady found herself up against seventy makle opponents but remained undaunted. She completed the fifty mile race to take the well-deserved Ladies' prize. She should prove an inspiration to other lady cyclists to get on their bikes and compete in open races. We hope the McCann Cup won't be Margaret's only outing this year and we look forward to seeing her in other events.… Read more
