The Crit in tne Park-Phoenix CC

Matthew Ward of Phoenix CC provided a home win for the host club with a convincing victory in 'The Crit in the Park' at Ormeau Park Belfast last night. Ward was at the front of the action all night breaking away with Brendan Doherty of Total Cycling-Lindsay Ford.

It looked as if the pair would stay away but they were hauled back by the bunch with just a few laps remaining. Ward took the sprint finish from Owen Jeffries (Northern-Dave Kane) with Willie Hamilton (East Antrim-Audi third. Colm Watson (Total Cycling-Lindsay Ford), Brendan Doherty (Total Cycling-Lindsay Ford) and Peter Hawkins (Castlereagh) completed the top six.
The Phoenix Club provided two hours of top class racing for all categories with riders from as young as 8 years old competing in the 6 races

The Ladies race, which formed part of the NI Women's Series was won by Mary McKee (Phoenix) with clubmate Hilary Thomas second and Ballymena's Hazel Hughes third.
The Under 14 event was won by Thomas Martin (Clann Eireann) from Richard Thomas (Ards CC) and James Keenan (Emyvale.

The U16 race was hotly contested with Michael Murray of Clann Eireann getting the verdict over Adam Petrie-Armstrong (Norhtern-Dave Kane) in a 2 up sprint. Mark McGirr of from Fermanagh's Lakeland CC finished third.

Toyota North Down's Stuart Henry was victor in the Under 12 race with Clifford Blayney 2nd and William Boyd 3rd.

The first junior pictured above centre was Peter Hawkins of Castlereagh with Frazer Duncan (Northern-Dave Kane) second and Michael Millar (Castlereagh) third.
Phoenix CC are grateful for the support fom Belfast City Council.The event formed part of the 'Belfast Week of Cycling' which continues with Mountainbike Track Racing at Orangefield tonight.
