Bennett Back to ‘Testing’ Form

Stuart Bennett (Phoenix CC) proved tonight that he is well and truly back on form as he recorded the fastest time tonight at Woodgreen. On a very windy night he managed to cover the ten miles in 21.16 some 22 seconds faster than nearest placed rider, Stevie Baines of Team Vision Racing. However this was a great ride from Baines and is well seen from where National Junior TT holder Aaron Baines gets his skills. With only four riders going under the 22 minute mark, it showed that it was a hard night.

Good rides were put in by other participants such as Apollo's Matthew Heaney, a Junior completing his second only time trial. Matthew recorded a personal best with his excellent time of 22.31 putting him into 11th spot on the night. This is a young man to watch out for in the future.

PB's were also recorded by three of the Phoenix CC contingent, namely John Neill, Stephen McWilliams and Jim Hegarty. These lads must be planning on ensuring that not only do Phoenix remain the fastest team in the country in the team trial championships but that they also lift all three podium positions.

Caroline Ryan of Garda CC made the long journey to Ballymena to do a superb time of 22.32. On a better night she could well have been on track to beat Heather Wilson's record of 21.47.

Some relatively new faces to the Dave Kane League also threw down the gauntlet tonight with Paddy McCallion (North Pole CC), Paul Wilkinson (West Down Wheelers and Bryan McKinney (Ballymoney CC) all making it into the top ten.

Many thanks must go to the Bikeworks team of Paul Smyth, Warren Francis and Colin Wilson who turned out to help. Ian Inglis of Curran Racing also assisted with the time keeping and being well over six foot tall with excellent eyesight he was a real bonus in spotting riders from a long way off. Eddie McKinney volunteered his services to push riders off and his help was much appreciated. As usual we are indebted to Billy 'Timelord' Smyth for his excellent time keeping services.

Next week's time trial moves to the Airport Rd near Crumlin for the first of the 25 mile time trials. This event is being hosted by Phoenix CC so our thanks to them.
