Events this Weekend – Road Leisure and Track

There are events on this weekend to suit different cyclists. For the road racers North Down's Promotion of the North Down Grand Prix which takes place on the Donaghadee - Bangor Coast road. With backing from North Down Borough Council and local firm Aquatech, a full field is expexcted to compete for the generous £700 prize fund. The race headquarters headquarters is the Donaghadee Rugby Club. The sign-on will begin at 12.00 noon with the race due to start at 1.00pm. The event is open to S1,S2,S3,V,W,J and is run over 105km.

Bann Valley North Coast Leisure Cycle
Bann Valley (M Clarke & Sons Contracts)annual charity run will be held on Sunday August 23rd and will take in the North Coast
between the two 'Ports' and return via Coleraine.

As in recent years the run will start from Portglenone Community Centre on
the Gortgole Road and will follow the same route as previous years. Also this year again due to the kind permission of Ballymena Council there will be full showering facilities as well as the usual refreshments at the end of the run.

Sign on will be from 9.30am with the start at 10am sharp.

The distances will be 45 miles turning at Coleraine or 60 miles taking in Portrush and Portstewart. Neither run is hilly and the roads are relatively flat. There are approximately three short drags on the longer route.

The entrance fee is £8 and proceeds will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

National Junior Track Championships
The National Junior track chammpionships take place this Saturday at Tommy Givan Track, Orangefield, Belfast. There will also be the final round of the inter-provincial Youth Track Series. See previous story for full details.

The track will be open at 11.00am with racing commencing at 12.00 noon.
