No Luck For Irish on Beijing Day Seven

The Luck of the Irish did not shine on the Cyclists for the combined LC1.LC2.CP4 Road Race at the Paralympic Cycling Competitions in Beijing today. On lap three Cathal Miler crashed out when he was comfortably sitting in the lead bunch which was really unfortunate as the way the race developed would have suited Cathal down to the ground and he would certainly have been in contention at the end. Thankfully he sustained no injuries but wrecked his rear wheel and when neutral service drove past him without stopping his race was over.

It was never going to be Enda Smyth’s race as the LC1 and LC2 riders are much stronger than the CP4 riders so we knew he would be struggling. However he battled his way through the gruelling course and picked up valuable ranking points which will help towards Ireland’s qualification for London in 2012.

In the last day of the cycling competitions tomorrow both the male and female Irish Tandem pairings will be in action in their road race competitions. Forecast is for another scorching day so hopefully they can stick with the bunch for some protection.
