Report on Emyvale GP

Emyvale C.C hosted their annual Grand Prix on Sunday 28th May. There were seven races in total taking place with two hundred riders in total going to the start line. The Youth Racing was the first off on the day and this event was held on a different course from the senior racing due to the large turn out of riders on the day. Both courses were well turned out and in supreme condition and well marshalled on all of the junctions. The racing was fast and furious all day with the weather holding up for the duration of all the Categories.

The Youth events were run over a testing five-mile circuit that had everything to test these Youth cyclists. The U-12 completing 1 Lap.U-14 3 Laps-.U-16 Completing 5 laps of this course. Kelly Colton and Conor Connolly finishing in the main group for Emyvale in the U12 with Ciara Mulholland (Clann Eireann/Linen Green) getting the win. The U-14 was hotly contested with Niall McAree and Colin Hughes finishing 4th and 5th respectively for Emyvale. The next up was the U-16 race with twenty riders going to the line the race was a very close call on the line with the nod going to Stuart Henry North Down CC. The Emyvale riders of Pauric Kane pulled out due to injury The Youth racing was done and dusted around 12-45 on the morning so next up were the Big Boys.

The main event was on the road for 1pm on a ten mile course in superb order for racing over a rolling course. A brave attempt by local rider Paul Brady to steal the glory in the senior 1 race on the final circuit of the Emyvale GP came to no avail. The S1&2 race got off to a breakneck speed from the drop of the flag on the start line with O'Loughlin, Kinning, and Mark Kieran setting the early pace on this tough circuit. The riders had four laps completed when O'Loughlin and Kinning broke from the main field and got a gap of over a 1 minute on the main bunch of riders with O'Loughlin from Waterford taking it on the line with 3 seconds over Glen Kinning Castlereagh C.C.

The Club would like to say a special word thank Monaghan General Hospital who provided care and assistants to Darrel McCartan.,Phoenix C.C. Darrel who created great excitement around Monaghan General with his hairy legs the nurses gave Darrel great care on the day so well done to Monaghan General.
