Dowling Retains National Crit Title

aaTonight was the start of a busy week for Banbridge CC as they promoted the prestigious All Ireland Criterium Championships. Tomorrow they will also promote the popular and very tough John Beggs Memorial Road Races.

The National Criterium saw a top class field race around the short circuit in Banbridge. The event was closely fought with Philip Lavery of Baguet-M.I.B.A.-Indulek-Derito Cycling Team) showing his return to form. However, Mark Dowling of Asea Wheelworx was determined to hold on to the title he won in 2015 in Clairemorris. As well as Lavery the local club’s Gareth McKee was also in fighting form which made for exciting racing in the technical course.

In the end Dowling was delighted to take the gold medal position and retain his title. Lavery had to be content with silver while McKee lifted the bronze medal. The team medals went to Banbridge CC with James Curry and John Buller playing their part to help achieve this glory.

With this event successfully out of the way the hard working crew at Banbridge get ready to do it all again tomorrow at the John Beggs.
