This Week’s Events

There are lots of events on during this coming week starting off with the Maiden City Criterium in Derry and the Maxwell Memorial Time Trial in Warrenpoint  both taking place this evening. On Thursday night there is another crit taking place  in Ballymoney while at the weekend we have a couple of leisure cycles such as Cycle for Oisin, Saddlerock Fundraiser, Slieve Gullions Leisure Event and the Hills of Donegal Tour as well as road racing with the Bobby Crilly Classic on Saturday and the John Mulligan Perpetual Trophy on Sunday.

Maiden City Criterium Tuesday 7th June 2016
This evening Foyle CC wil host their annual Maiden City Criterium which promised to feature exciting racing aroung the closed roads of Derry City cnetre, Full details of this evet and an updated map of the course can be found HERE

Maxwell Memorial Time Trial Warrenpoint Tueday 7th June
Tonight West Down Wheelers promote their annual Maxwell Memorial Time Trial on the Warrenoint to Newry dual carriageway. This is a prestigious event which attract riders from the south. Sign-on is from 6.00pm at the Harbour Warrenpoint Docks witht he first ridr off at 7.00pm.

Ballymoney Town Centre Criterium Thursday 9th June
On Thursday Ballymoney CC promote their annual criterium around the streets of the town. This is not a pre-entry event so please arrive early to ensure a place. The entry fee is £10 with youth races set at  £4. There will be a 5-race programme  along with a family run around the town.

Sign on is at the Townhead Street car park, Ballymoney.

6:40 – 6:55 – family fun cycle
7:00 – under 12 (10min + 1 laps)
7:15 – under 14 (10min + 1 laps)
7:30 – under 16 (15min + 2 laps)
7:55 – A4 club race (20mins + 2laps)
8:20 – A1,2,3 (30mins +3laps)

Bobby Crilly Classic Road Race Saturday 11th June 2016
On Saturday 11th June 2016, Phoenix Cycling Club will be hosting The Bobby Crilly Classic which will be kindly sponsored by Draynes Farm . There will be a slight change in course this year but the iconic Divis mountaintop finish remains. Phoenix CC  have decided to run two races;only this year and these will be a combined A2/3 race and an A4 race. There will be no race for A1’s this year.
Details of the races are:
1. The A2/3 race will be six laps of the circuit (which will be familiar to anyone who has rode the Phoenix GP) then up the climb, approximately 59 miles.
2. The A4 race will be three laps of the circuit then up the climb, approximately 42 miles.

Prizes will be awarded down to fifth place and there will be a woman’s prize in each race as well as a prize for the highest unplaced A3 in the A2/3 race.
The key details are:

• Pre entry via Entrycentral will be open from 7pm on Wednesday 18th May and will close at midnight on Tuesday 7th June.

• Entry fee via EntryCentral is £15 for senior riders and £10 for juniors (please note juniors will have to pay £15 on Entrycentral and can get the £5 difference back at sign-on due to difficulties with two prices on Entrycentral, sorry for the hassle). Entry fee on the day is £20, £10 for juniors, subject to spaces being available. No refunds to riders withdrawing will be issued.

• Sign on in the Lamh Dhearg centre on the Hannahstown Rd, Belfast. BT17 0LZ. Paste 54.5877,-6.036258 into google maps for a location. No one day licenses will be issued.

• Sign-on opens at 9:00 and will close at 10:00. The neutralized roll out to Nutts Corner will begin at 10:05, with the racing starting at Nutts Corner at 10:30.

John Mulligan Perpetual Trophy Sunday 12th June 2016

Strule Wheelers CC will be running three separate races;

A - Race: (A1, A2 categories) limited to 80 riders  A - Race, 7  laps (9 miles/lap)
B - Race: (A3 categories) limited to 80 riders. B - Race, 6 laps (9 miles/lap)
C - Race: (A4 category) limited to 80 riders. C - Race, 4 laps (9 miles/lap)

Entry for each race is limited to 80 riders respectively. This is a pre-entry event on Entry Central

Sign on and event HQ will be at St Patrick's Hall Main Street Fintona Co,Tyrone with changing facilities and car-parking. Sign on available from 10:00am - 11:30am Races begin at 12.00 Noon.

Refresments and prize giving back at St Patricks Hall after the Race.

Hills of Donegal Tour Saturday 11th June 2016

The Hills of Donegal” Sportive 2016 takes place on Saturday 11th June 2016 promoted by Errigal CCvA challenging 160km/120km or the shorter 100km non competitive sportive will await participants, this along with Donegal hospitality, quiet country roads, plenty of climbs varying in gradients, …this will make for a great days cycling.

The sportive itself commences with sign on  at the Lagoon bar in Termon on the main N56  north of Letterkenny from 8.00am on Saturday morning.

Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust Fund Cycle Promoted by Slieve Gullion Wheelers
Next Sunday 12th June Dundalk Rugby Club on the Mill Road will be the starting place for a 100km, a 60km and a 25km leisure cycle being held to raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust which has done stalwart work for Irish families in assisting in the repatriation of over one hundred and eighty bodies of loved ones over the last three years. Earlier this year the trust helped in bringing home the bodies of Evan McArdle from Dundalk and Niall Quinn from Silverbridge who both died in tragic circumstances abroad.

Assisted by the local Slieve Gullion Wheelers cycling club their families have come together to organize both a fundraising cycle and hill walk to raise funds for the trust.

The cycles begin from the Dundalk Rugby club with registration from 9.00am and the longer route beginning at 10.00am. Registration is Registration is €20/£15 and Cycling Ireland one day licenses will be available at no additional cost for those who need insurance. The longer route takes the cyclists through Dundalk town centre to Ballymacscanlon roundabout, down to Murphy’s corner on the Greenore Road and then back up the steady climb to the ‘Long Woman’s Grave’, over the Flagstaff Road to Carrickarnon, then to Meigh, Camlough and on to a food stop at The Mountain House. The route then continues to Newtownhamilton, Fords Cross, Crossmaglen and back to Dundalk via Shelagh.

Refreshments will be served at the finish for all. Motor bike and static marshals will be in place along the routes with back up vans lending assistance if needed. Showers will be available at the Rugby club at the finish. Helmets should be worn by all cyclists. The shorter routes will travel from the Rugby Club to Carrickarnon and back again beginning at 10.30am.

Saddle Rock CC Fundaraiser Sunday 12th June
Sign-on at Scoil Naomh Padraig,in Dumfries at 9.00am with the cycle due to take palce qt 10.0am. All proceeds in aid of the school. Entry fee €10 for Adults €10 and €5 for youth.
