2016 Ulster Championships Now Open for Application

While it might seem very early the Executive of Cycling Ulster would like to hear from any clubs interested in promoting any of our Ulster Championships in 2016. We have a meeting in June and would like to be able to approve the events at that meeting in order to include them in 2016 calendar when it opens in September. This will allow the calendar co-ordinator to close off certain dates and allow club promoters to see when the Championships are on to avoid clashes.

With the growth of cycling and the increase in the number of clubs it is foreseen that 2016 will haveĀ  a very full calendar of events and clashes will be inevitable. However we do not want events in the same discipline clashing with our Blue Ribband events such as the Championships. We also wish to avoid splitting our Youth fields as many of the youth riders will take part in Road, Off Road and Track Championships.

Cycling Ulster will provide all medals which will be individually engraved for all the winners in each category. Prizes are not usually awarded but this is at the discretion of the promoting club. Some clubs will provide winners' jerseys if they get sufficient sponsorship or other token gifts, often cycling related, again depending on funds available.

The Cycling Ulster Executive and all our members are extremely grateful to the clubs who take on the Championship events and work so hard to make sure that they really are the premier events in the calendar. The standard of event promotion for these events has improved every year and we fully appreciate the work that goes into it.

Please raise the issue of the Championships at your next club meeting and give it due consideration. It is much better for all concerned if these events are the first events to be registered in the calendar. Also once a club is awarded theĀ  Championship it will give them some time to organise and look for sponsorship.

If you would like to host any of the Championships in 2016 please email me at marianlamb@ulstercyclingnews.com indicating which event you are interested in and a provisional date. We would like to recieve the applications by Friday 12th June in time for our June Meeting.
