Amy Brice Takes on Massive Challenge

amyAfter 4 years of cycling, three times Cycling Ulster Champion Amy Brice and current leader of the Women’s National League ventures into the mountains to tackle what she quotes as “a huge endurance challenge that will test me to my limit”.

The Haute Route is a relatively new cyclosportive compared to others but has been described by the Haute Route organisers as the highest and toughest cyclosportive in the world. This 7 stage timed event traverses over the greatest cycling terrain in the world.

There are now three events where the Dolomites, Alps and the Pyrenees play host. Amy leaves for Venice on 14th August and the challenge begins 16th August and arrives in Geneva 22nd August. After a day off she will be back on her bike to complete the next 7 stages that will take her from Geneva to Nice, a transfer day on 31st August will see her arrival in Barcelona where her final stretch will take her through the Pyrenees to Biarritz on 7th September. Each event attracts about 500 riders with 24 attempting the Iron Challenge (two events) and 11 attempting the Triple Crown. Amy is the only female attempting all 3.

“I enjoy preparing and taking on a physical challenge as I feel the memories and people you meet will make the experience unforgettable. I am 26 and I am approaching one of the most daunting challenges that I could set myself but I am looking forward to it. I will take it one stage at a time but I am doing this challenge for a cause and I will be determined to do my best at getting my body to Biarritz in 7th September. International Justice Mission (www.ijmuk.org) is a human rights organisation that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to secure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems - police, courts and laws - effectively protect the poor. The bbc news footage shows in the link below what the charity IJM is doing in India.

It would be fantastic to get to £2500 or over as this is approximately the kilometres in distance that the triple crown will be. All money raised goes towards IJM. Please support me and thanks for all those who have done so already.

We look forward to hear of how Amy progresses in her challenge and wish her the best.
