Square Wheels are Calling all Italians to a Special Cycle

Square Wheels Cycle Club, based in Moy on the Tyrone/Armagh border, are celebrating the Giro d’Italia by organising a unique club exchange with their Italian counterparts, S.C. Novese Fausto Coppi from Novi Ligure in the Italian region of Piedmont.

The Moy has strong links with the Piedmont region. When the Earl of Charlemont came back from his Grand Tour in the 1760’s he was so impressed by the Italian town of Bosco Marengo in Piedmont that he decided to build the village of Moy as a replica.  Square Wheels thought the Giro was the perfect opportunity to rekindle those links and offer a local Italian club the unique opportunity to see their greatest sporting event begin in Ireland.

S.C. Novese Fausto Coppi, formed over 60 years ago, were named after the great Italian cyclist who lived nearby. Coppi trained and raced on the roads around Novi Ligure. They will be staying with Square Wheels’ families during the Grande Partenza (9th-11th May) and will travel to Belfast, the Antrim Coast and Armagh City for all three stages. The Italians will return the favour by hosting the Moy club for a few stages in Italy and give them the unique opportunity to climb Oropa ahead of the Peleton on stage 14.

Square Wheels CC and S.C Novese Fausto Coppi would like to invite all Italian Nationals and clubs nearby to join them on a 30 mile cycle through the Armagh & Tyrone countryside on Firday 9th May, leaving the Moy Square at 10am and returning for coffee and a snack around 1pm.

You can contact the club via Facebook: facebok.com/SQ.Wheels or via email: squarewheelscc@gmail.com
