Cycling Ulster Schools Project.

Barry Monaghan Cycling Ulster's new Development officer is currently putting together a schools initiative for the Ulster region. Initially 6 clubs will be involved and the first schools' skills programmes will commence mid to late March.
The six clubs involved in the initial programme will be Newry Wheelers, Clann Eireann, Banbridge CC, Lakeland CC, Fintona CC and Emyvale CC. The initiative is intended to create an awareness of cycling and cycling skills and will primarily be aimed at late primary into 1st and 2nd year age groups. Both boys and girls will be targeted and it is hoped that all clubs involved will see an increase in sustainable underage membership, which will have a knock on effect into the Federation as a whole.
The second phase of the scheme will involve the kids taking part in more club based activities (club leagues etc) to maintain interest in the sport and develop their skills a little further.
The interest from the clubs so far has been excellent and I would expect to further the scheme into other clubs from May/June time. Any clubs interested can contact me at any time to discuss the project.

Barry Monaghan.
