May Day Bank Holiday – Feast of Off Road Cycling – Rostrevor

rosRostrevor Mountainbike Festival in Association with Newry & Mourne District Council will take place next weekend between 4th - 6th May. Practice kicks off on Saturday 4th May and three local clubs, each specialising in different disciplines, will be organising the events to ensure a very special rider experience.

Chainreaction Cycles club will be organising round 2 of the Irish Downhill Mountainbike Series (IDMS) on 5th May, Dromara Cycling Club will be organising round 2 of the Ulster Cross Country Series on the 5th May and Plush MTB will be organising an Open Enduro event on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May.… Read more


Great Weekend for Off Road

The Red Bull Foxhunt on Belfast’s Cave Hill took place at the weekend and attracted competitors and visitors from all over Ireland and beyond.

Irish off road riders have consistently shown their talents both at home and abroad and this is due in no small measure to the top class mountain bike trails in Ireland.

The event promoted by Red Bull, sees 100 riders set off on the course together. They are then chased by World Downhill Champion, Gee Atherton who is set off some seconds after them.… Read more


Foxhunts and Trail Quests

This weekend the Redbull Foxhunt takes place on Cavehill. This downhill mountain bike event has the backing of Belfast City Council and organised by Plush MTB. The entry is full and should make for a great event to spectate at on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday Dromara Cycling Club are launching the first round of their trail quests. These off-road orienteering events have proved to be very popular over the years attracting a full range of cyclist, young and old, leisure and competitive minded. Report from the NPS DH race at Yellow Water

The fifth and final round of the 2012 Irish NPS Downhill Series took place on Saturday and Sunday 24th and 25th September 2011 at a new race venue, Yellow Water in County Down. The race was hosted by Colin Finley and his team at PLUSH MTB. No one really has any clue whatsoever of why the venue is called Yellow Water, I guess it will be one of those mysteries. The venue is just another section of the huge Rostrevor woods, We all know the famous Rostrevor for hosting races for the past few years.… Read more


Bikedock Belles Downhill in Scotland

Last weekend (7/8th May) saw Belles Julie and Andrea and Monthlies Joanne and Debbie head to Scotland for some Downhill MTB fun. The destination was Kinnoul Hill just north of Perth for the Diva Descent - the UK’s first female only Downhill race. It was suggested several weeks ago that this would be a good trip for Debbie, who had stated that she wanted to do something new and spectacular before she turned 40 on 9th May.

The race began with all the girls staring into the pouring rain and plenty of supporters cheering them on and in Debbie’s case screaming “ Don’t touch your brakes”, which worked as she got round the tech bits with only a foot down and sailed through the finish line to the music from the Red Bull truck and a grin wide enough to put a coat hanger in!… Read more
