Hardy Young Testers at Omagh’s Youth TT

In what only can be described as cold and windy conditions  a few hardy young riders braved the elements to take part in Omagh Wheelers Capital Reinforcing Youth Time Trial League. The time trial was a straight out five mile course.  Shaun McBride was chief time keeper and Omagh Wheelers members were in attendance to help out.

In the Under 16 event Aaron Wiley recorded at 12:40, a great time in such poor conditions. The Under 14 race saw another Omagh rider, Joseph Owens,, record a 14:42 while his club-mate, Rachel McBride, clocked a 17:53.

Time Trial News and a Host of Upcoming TT’s – Updated

5The discipline of time trials commonly known as the 'race of truth' has been growing in popularity in Ulster over the years and now many clubs are beginning to run their own individual open events or promote TT series such as the Super 6 series promoted by Island Wheelers. The latest club to come on board to facilitate the 'testers' with a new series is Carn Wheelers who will be  promoting a new series on time trials on the Glenshane Pass. Phoenix CC will also be hosting an open time trial shortly as will Omagh Wheelers who will be including events for youth riders.  … Read more

Great Racing at Round 2 Ulster XC at Tollymore

26037378514_bf02699ed1_mThe weather was kind to the promoters of the second round of the Ulster XC Series, Dromara CC, as they prepared the course for the weekend's racing. By Saturday morning the hard-working crew had everything done and dusted in time for the afternoon practices. On Sunday morning the real racing began.

As with all the Ulster events there was a full programme of events for the young riders from Under 6 upwards. The U6 event is purely for fun and  is non-competitive. In the U8 girls it was Aisling Smyth of Apollo who took the win from Eimer Heverin (Castlereagh CC) and Beth Campbell (XMTB McConvey Cycles).… Read more

Ulster Riders Excel in Bohermeen

9Ulster riders have been showing their ability at the Bohermeen Races.  Craig McAuley (Caldwell Cycles) won the Waller Cup, Claire McIlwaine (Phoenix CC) won the Women's National Series race at the same event and Nathan Mullan (Dromara CC) was victorious in the Thomas Tuite Cup with Newry Wheelers rider, Jude Sands,  in second place. In the Under 16 event it was Errigal's PJ Doogan who won ahead of a strong field while his brother Odhran was third in the Under 14 race. Well done to all.… Read more


Weekend Road and Off Road Competitive Events

Orchard CC TT Cancelled
The Orchard CC promoted Time Trial which was due to take place on Saturday 23rd April has been cancelled. This is because the Tandragee 100 is taking place on that day on the same circuit. Orchard CC apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Mid Ulster GP Sunday 24th April
The Mid Ulster GP promoted by Harps Cycling Club will be held on Sunday 24th April 2016. Harps CC will be promoting racing for all categories so it will be a busy day for the club.… Read more


Youth Cycling News

A lot of youth development work going on in the North West at the moment with the popular North West Youth League promoted by Omagh Wheelers, Errigal CC and Donegal Bay CC. Omagh Wheelers are also starting a series of time trials for youth riders. (more details at the end of this article.)  This is also the weekend of Rás na nÓg, the two day stage race for youth riders. Staying with the North West, Strabance Lifford are the latest club to encourage and develop a Youth Section within their club.… Read more


Hard Racing At PJ Logan Cup – Results Added

aIt was all hands to the deck today for Island Wheelers when they promoted their PJ Logan Cup. With four races in the afternoon they also promoted Youth racing in the morning when PJ Doogan made up for his mishaps yesterday by taking a win in the U16 event.

The A race for A1 and A2 riders which was a handicapped affair saw some very aggressive riding as the A1's put down the hammer to catch the A2's. Chris McGlinchey of Chain Reaction Cycles, fresh from his victory in Rá Mumhan was very much to the fore driving the A1's.… Read more


Watson in Top Form at Ciclisport

aDavid Watson of North Down showed no signs of tiredness after the weekend's Tour of the North when he romped home to victory in the Ciclisport GP promoted by East Tyrone CC.  He was quickly followed in by Aaron Swan of Ballymoney and David Hamilton of North Down who had a close battle for second and third.

In the A3 race it was the home favourite, Harvey Barnes who did not disappoint the punters as he  won the race just ahead of Conor McCann of Asea Wheelworx.… Read more


Road Race, Leisure and Off Road Race Events this Weekend

Saturday 2nd April 2016 : Ciclisport GP
The Ciclisport Grand Prix for 2016 will take place on Saturday 02nd April. This is a pre-entry event which is now filled. The Race HQ is the Loup GAA and sign on is from 9.00 to 9.30am. There are races for U14, U16, A1/A2, A3 , A4 and Women. There is no Master's race due to time constraints. Racing starts at 10.0am for U16, U14 and Women.  The Women's race Race is part of the Ulster Women's League. Youth Races are part of the Ulster Youth League.Racing starts at 12.30pm for: A1/A2, A3 and A4
