Sprinters to the fore at Newry

aThe John Haldane Memorial race promoted by Newry Wheelers always provides a opportunity for the fast men to test their sprinting techniques. The race which takes place on the Warrenpoint to Newry dual carriageway is a relatively flat course and generally any breaks are quickly reeeled in.

Such was the case in the A race for A1/A2 riders. Many of the big hitters were there and all were determined to be up for the final gallop to the line. A late break led by off road officienado, Gareth McKee of Banbridge CC and three riders from the promoting club such as Mark McKinley and Gareth McCullough held off the bunch for a while.… Read more

The club put on an A and a B run with the A run covering 70 miles and the B run 55.  The conditions down the Antrim coast road, where the wind really hit hard, were severe but the riders battled on getting some tough miles in the legs.

Many thanks to all who helped put on today’s event and particularly those at the welcome tea stop in Ballygally.… Read more
