Emyvale GP Open for Pre-Entry – Race Numbers Capped

DSC3096The Emyvale GP is now open for pre-entry.This is the first year that Emyvale have had a pre-entry system which will through the Cycling Ireland website.

Please Note : The Senior races are now capped at 80 riders. This is the first time Emyvale have set a limit on their race entry as they are not restricted by the Cycle Racing on Public Highways as clubs in the North of Ireland are. However the club felt that the smaller, capped field would make for safer racing all round.… Read more

Angus Fyffe Tops the Field Stage 1 Tour of Ulster

angusAngus Fyffe took an impressive win today in the first stage of the Ambergreen Tour of Ulster.The stage which toook the riders on a 140km journey from the Moy, through Stewartstown and Cookstown before the first KOH of the day at Pomeroy and then on to Ballygawley with another Category 3 climb on the way.  The riders headed on through Benburb and Blackwatertown, with three more climbs enroute before the finish back in the Square in The Moy.

Attacks began from the outset with riders such as Marcus Christie (Omagh Wheelers), recently returned to competitive cycling,  being at the forefront of these early attacks.… Read more

Road Races this May Bank Holiday Weekend

14With biting winds blowing from the north, intermittent showers of sleet and hail can only mean one thing - we are heading into the May Bank Holiday Weekend and the Tour of Ulster about to take to the roads on Saturday. The 2015 Ambergreen Tour of Ulster saw some of the most horrendous cold and snow of the winter last year causing the second stage around Kilkeel on the Sunday to be cancelled. Tour of the Mournes Live for Entry Tomorrow Friday 22nd

The Tour of the Mournes which takes place on Sunday 8th. May goes live on entry Central tomorrow, Friday 22nd April at 7.00pm. This very popular race caters for A1 to A3 riders. However preference will be given to A1 and A2 riders as this event receives full support from the PSNI as it wends its way around Co Down. This year the promoters of the event, Newry Wheelers, have selected a slightly different route  - see https://www.strava.com/routes/47048477

Leisure Events This Weekend Updated

Saturday 23rd April Phoenix CC Sportive Postponed
Due to circumstances beyond their control the Big Italian Fundraiser as listed in the calendar for Saturday has been postponed. The new date for this event is Sunday 21st August. Once again Phoenix CC will be raising funds for the Friends of the Cancer Centre. Please put this date in your diary and encourage friends and fellow cyclists to participate. Phoenix CC apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.

Youth Racing Promoted by Island Wheelers Sunday 3rd April

On Sunday 3rd April Island Wheelers will be hosting racing for youth riders in the morning prior to their main senior events in the afternoon. This is all part of new initiatives by the club to develop a strong Youth Section within the club. They already have good representation at off road events for youth and some of their young road racers have distinguished themselves.

The sign-on location is the Killyman GAA club outside Dungannon with sign-on taking place from 9.00am to 9.45am. Riders are reminded that there will be a gear check and this will take place at sign-on.… Read more

McGlinchey Takes Stage 1 Rás Mumhan

aIn a tough opening stage of Ras Mumhan Ulster riders proved themselves up t0 the task. The stage started in Killorglin and was to traverse over 100km of hard roads with three KOH primes to contest in cold and very windy conditions. The seond KOH was a Cat 2 climb over rough, uneven ground on a narrow road outside Kilcummin. As the riders approached the climb spectators could spot the nine man break whch had opened up a gap of about thirty seconds on the main field.… Read more

Tour of the North Kicks off Tomorrow

The 2016 Tour of the North International Cycle race supported by Ards and North Down Borough Council starts on Friday evening with a circuit race on the Kirkistown Motor Racing Track (5.30pm). The four day five stage event is based in the Ards and North Down area with the race headquarters in the Portaferry Hotel.

The other stages will show the scenic Ards Peninsula and North Down area at its best while testing the cyclist skill and endurance to their limits.
