Mighty Craic at Team Building Day

aDespite the icy road conditions this morning fifteen young Cycling Ulster riders managed to make it in to the Dundonald Ice Bowl to begin a series of activities.

Ciara Doogan and Amy Harkin even travelled all the way from Donegal to attend.

First on the agenda was the ice skating which got the hearts pumping as everyone tried to stay upright. Sean McNicholl and Nicola Oldham were old hands at this and were able to show off their skills.

Shenna McKiverigan was the best of the riders initially but Declan Mulholland, Conor McLoughlin and Jake Gray were determined to improve and by the time the session was ended they were well into the swing of it.… Read more


NITB Promote Giro d’Italia

Cycling legends Sean Kelly, Daniel Martin, Nicholas Roche and Stephen Roche joined Fiona Cunningham from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) at the recent Cycling Ireland Annual Awards which were held in the O?Callaghan Alexandra Hotel in Dublin. NITB were promoting the 2014 Giro d'Italia cycle race which will see more than 200 of the world's best cyclists from over 30 countries arriving in Northern Ireland for what's known as the Grande Partenza (Big Start) in Belfast on Friday 9th May.

Racing will continue on Saturday in the Greater Belfast area and takes in the scenic North Antrim Coast (May 10) before concluding on the Sunday (May 11) with a road stage from Armagh to Dublin.… Read more

Make Your Voice Heard re Forests in Dungannon and South Tyrone

Outdoor Recreation NI, working on behalf of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, are holding two public consultation events to discuss your views on current and future outdoor recreation and activity tourism opportunities in the forests within Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council area.

The aim of the study is to consider the provision and quality of activities that take place and facilities present within the forests, and
also what opportunities could be developed in the future. The forests that are being discussed are as follows: Parkanaur, Brantry, Fardross, Favour Royal, Knockmany, Dunmoyle, Mullaghfad, Crocknagrally and Altmore.… Read more

Stars of Irish Cycling Gather in Dublin

10It was a glittering gathering of Irish cycling stars, past and present last night in the O'Callaghan Alexander Hotel in Dubln. Over two hundred and eighty people came together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Cycling Ireland. The night also doubled as the annual prize giving dinner.

For those who are new to cycling the names from the present international road race which stood out were Nicolas Roche, Dan Martin and Matt Brammeier, the current National Elite Road race champion.

Irvine wins Points Race in First World Cup of the 2014 Season

martyn_irvine-1Scratch World Champion, Martyn Irvine has won the Points Race at the World Cup in Manchester. Irvine qualified for the Final earlier today, and conserved his energy for the first half of the stage, before storming to victory with a 3 point lead over second placed Lasse Norman Hansen. Italy’s Elia Viviani (ITA) took the Bronze.

The 120 Points Race is an event where riders start in a bunch, and sprint for intervals throughout the race. With just over 30 laps to go Irvine made his move, and took the remainder of the points, with the final verdict decided on the line.… Read more


Meet Nicholas Roche in Belfast this Sunday

With the Giro d’Italia starting in Belfast in just over six months away Nicholas Riche will be in Belfast on Sunday evening to talk about the great year he has had in 2013 and his hopes for 2014.

The evening with Nicholas takes place in the Wellington Park Hotel from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and will start with a short video followed by a Question and Answer session with Nicholas.

Cycling Ireland AGM this Saturday + Records Approved

The Cycling Ireland Annual General Meeting will take place on 26th October 2013, at 11am, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan Town. Delegates are requested to arrive prior to 1045 in order to facilitate a timely start to the AGM. Since it is Ulster's turn to host the AGM we would encourage clubs to send representatives to this meeting.

There wil be an election to select the new President of Cycling Ireland as out-going President Rory Wyley has decided not to stand for re-election, The current nominees for the position are Denis Toomey and Ciaran McKenna.… Read more

There are a number of event son this weekend to suit both the leisure and off road cyclists. For those of you who prefer a rugged off road trail why not head for Tir Chonaill GAP's Halloween Howl in Glenties.

Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans1 (300x113)David Cartmill (West Down Wheelers) and Robbie Marsh (Newry Triathlon Club) have joined together to raise much needed funds for the Southern Area Hospice Services.

At 1.00 am on 28th Oct David will be riding from Bessbrook to Omeath, while at the same time Robbie will be swimming from Warrenpoint across Carlingford Lough to Omeath.

When at Omeath they will team up with Mark Shilliday (West Down Wheelers) for the long 80 mile night ride south to Dublin.  David stated that the night ride on the old Dublin Road, although, there’ll not be much traffic, it will still be a challenge with potholes etc.… Read more

Attention All Clubs Interested in Youth Development

There will be an open meeting this Wednesday 23rd October for clubs or individuals interested in promoting and developing youth cycling. The meeting will be held in Clann Eireann club rooms on Victoria Street , Lurgan from 8.15pm. The evening will take the format of informal discussion and planning  forums in order to take on board ideas and suggestions for the development of youth cycling.
