Feast of Racing at Nutts Corner

aPhoenix CC put on  a feast of racing today around Nutts Corner today. The hard working club members were on the go from early on checking the course and putting out barriers at the finish line. Safety Officer, Jim Hegarty had left nothing to chance and had produced an excellent race handbook listing the marshalls and the positions as well as letting them know when they would be relieved.

In the race headquarters in Crumlin United's Clubroom the sign-on crew were on hand from 9.30 while the catering crew plied the first arrivals with tea/coffee and scones which were were well received on the cold blustery morning especially by the many who had travelled some distance to get to the races.… Read more

Xmtb McConvey Cycles – Spring Series – Round 2

It was a return to Ormeau Park for Round 2 of the Xmtb McConvey Cycles spring series. This event was almost not going to go ahead as the course from the previous round had been very mucky and the weather during the week had not helped it.  Thankfully Mark Harvey and Robbie Lamont came up with a new course design that avoided the worst of the areas from the previous week but still left a good challenging circuit for all riders.

Many of the course sections were run in reverse from last week to further add to the high level of course set up by the squad.  … Read more

The A race was a handicapped race for A1-A3 riders and it went from the gun. The course is a tough one with rolling hlls and a few drags to sap the energy.

Sean McIntyre of Orchard CC broke away early and although there were a few chasers initially, he was left to hang out alone.… Read more

Errigal Youth Event and Emyvale Reliability Trial

errErriagal CC has decided to run this series in order that their youth cyclists would have a number of races in Ulster to attend races within easy travelling distance and to cut down on the necessity to travel great distance in order to get racing experience.

The club would welcome young riders from other parts of the country to come along and take part.

Riders Take Note of Instructions to Comms

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photography-image33475952With the road race season due to get underway on Saturday with the popular Annaclone race, riders should be aware of instructions sent out to all Commissaires regarding he wearing of race numbers, riding safety and general behaviour for cyclists.

To put things in context I have already received complaints regarding the bahaviour of some riders at two of the Reliability Trials this year. There is no excuse for riders to be on the wrong side of the road in unsafe conditions. If it is necessary to move to the wrong side of the road then it must be done when the road ahead is clear of traffic and when you can see some distance ahead.… Read more
