Clubmark NI Information Session in Lisburn

Sport NI are running a Clubmark NI Information Session in Lisburn at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex on Thursday 13th November at 7.30 pm in the Lagan Room.

This meeting is for any sports clubs in the Lisburn City Council and surrounding areas who may be interested registering for Clubmark or even learning more about the scheme and about how it could help their local sports club. The format of the evening will be a 30 minute presentation by Declan Steele of SportNI followed by a short Q &  A session where clubs will have the opportunity to ask specific questions on Clubmark NI and the processes involved in gaining accreditation.… Read more

Missing Cycling Ulster Radios – Please Check

Cycling Ulster Executive is seeking your help in tracing a number  of radios belonging to Cycling Ulster which unfortunately have not been returned from various races. We would urge all race promoters and marshalls who may have used radios to check their cars, under seats and in any boxes containing race equipment. The hand held radios can easily be lost under car seats as this has happened many times in the past.

The biggest problem is often getting radios from an ambulance which has gone to a hospital following a crash.… Read more

Ambergreen Tour of Ulster Launched

amCycling enthusiasts will relive the legacy of the Giro d'Italia in May 2015 as teams from across Europe will take to the Northern Ireland roads for the 'AmberGreen Energy Tour of Ulster' - one of Ireland's longest established races.

The race, which was established in 1957 and is embedded in the local racing calendar, is attracting riders from Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Holland, GB and Ireland.

Launched on Tuesday (NOV 4) outside Stormont, The 'AmberGreen Energy Tour of Ulster' will see cyclists compete for the coveted pink jersey of the race leader yet again as they compete through the four stage route.… Read more

Track Commissaire Course

Paul-Watson-150x150The National Track Commission has arranged for a training course for potential Track Commissaires.

The dates for the course are 6th and 7th December. The times for the course are: from 10 am on the Saturday until 5 pm and 10 am on the Sunday until 4am.  At the end of the course there will be a one hour written exam.

The venue is the Pavilion at Sundrive Velodrome.

The course will be run only if there are sufficient candidates so please register early if you are interested.… Read more

Following on from the unsuccessful motion at the Cycling Ireland AGM by Noel Kelly of Team Bikeworx, Celbridge to apply a levy on competitive licences for the Junior Tour, the level of support, offers and ideas towards race organiser, Alice Sherratt from the general cycling community nationwide has been nothing short of astounding.

Countless phone calls have been made and discussions have taken place over the past few days in relation to the proposal made by Martin O’Loughlin, Iverk Carrick to hold a fundraising sportive for the Junior Tour in advance of the coming season.… Read more

Reminder – Cycling Ireland AGM this Saturday

The Cycling Ireland AGM takes place this Saturday at 11.00am in the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone. There are a number of Board members up for election including the Honorary Secretary, Jack Watson.

The Board of Cycling Ireland has decided not to increase fees this year but they wish to remove the Introductory Leisure Licence. If you disagree with this you should make sure that you attend the AGM. A list of the number of delegates each club is allowed to send can be found HERE.… Read more

Voting Opens for the Cycling Ireland Membership Awards

Cycling Ireland’s Awards Night dinner takes place in the Crowne Plaza, Santry on Saturday 15th November starting at 7.30pm with a drinks reception. Tickets are now on sale. This function is held annually to acknowledge the achievements of Irish cyclists, from medallists at the international and national level to the Membership Awards, voting for which opens today. Some of the special guests confirmed so far include World Silver Medallists Ryan Mullen and Mark Downey along with the World Silver tandem pairing of Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal.… Read more

Notice of Cycling Ulster AGM 2014

The Cycling Ulster AGM will take place at 12.00 noon on Saturday 22nd November 2014 at Quinn’s Corner, 175, Ballygawley Rd, Donaghmore, Dungannon, County Tyrone, BT70 1RX. This is a central location and has disabled access. Any Cycling Ulster member who wishes to attend will be most welcome, however only club delegates have the authority to vote. Light refreshments will be provided. We would encourage all clubs to send along representatives to the AGM.

Apollo CT Youth Development – Rockets Take Off

apFor the past year the Lurgan based Apollo Cycling Team has been working hard to develop programmes within the club for different cyclist including women, beginners and youth. Their hard work has certainly paid off with increased membership and an active women's section headed up by Maggie Callaghan McMahon as women's representative. the club opened their own clubrooms in the centre of Lurgan this year and run many classes for riders of different abilities and needs.

However it is in the area of Youth development that the club are most proud with their Junior section - The Apollo Rockets - up and running.… Read more

Gearing Up Off-Road Instructor Training

The Gearing Up Off-Road instructor training is of two days duration abd will take palce on Saturday and Sunday 18th and 19th October in  Meelmore Lodge, 52 Trassey Road, Newcastle, Co Down, BT33 0QB. The course starts at 9.o0 am and finishes at 6 o'clock. The cost os 120 euro or £100.

Day 1, focuses on each of the sessions with time being spent on basic mountain biking techniques. The morning of Day 2 will provide the candidates with the opportunity to deliver a Gearing Up session to their course colleagues. … Read more
