20:20 Cycle – United We Cycle Against Dementia

After the very successful 20:20 Cycle in 2016 The Alzheimer’s Society launch the 20:20 United Against Dementia Cycle in Northern Ireland. The event takes place on Sunday 13th May 2018 which will see the Launch of "Dementia Action Week" and is being hosted by Omagh Wheelers CC

The key message is: "Take action and help improve the lives of people with dementia".

This year, Dementia Awareness Week is changing to Dementia Action Week (21 to 27 May). Raising awareness and offering support will always be important, but it’s time we all act to make change happen for people affected by dementia.… Read more

Cycling Ulster Award WInners

The Cycling Ulster Awards evening will take place next Sunday in the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown. In the inerests of allowing younger members to get home at a reasonable time the evening is scheduled to begin at 4,30 with the meal served at 5.00pm. The cost is £20 per adult and £10 per child which has been heavily subsidised by Cycling Ulster.

Stuart Ross Memorial Challenge

The annual Stuart Ross Memorial Challenge will take place on Saturday 30th December starting at 12.00 noon. The event is in aid of Mindspace and the Chest, Heart and Stroke association. Sigh-on takes place at Whitehead Fire Station and the cost of entry is £15. Refreshments are available at the Whitecliff Inn.

The cycle is relatively short at 30 miles but there are seven sharp climbs to test the legs. This could be an ideal way to shed some of the Christmas excesses and all for a good cause.… Read more

Safeguarding Course Tonight in Cookstown

Cycling Ulster will be running a Safeguarding Awareness Course in Cookstown this evening. The course will take place in Team Aspie HQ''s on Molesworth Street, Cookstown
(opposite the police station). The course will begin at 7.00pm and will last approximately three hours. Refreshments will served at the halfway point. The course will be taken by Marian Lamb, Ulster's Lead Safeguarding Officer.

The course has been requested by Harps CC but is open to any member from other clubs who wish to attend. The course is provided free of charge to all Ulster clubs.… Read more

Champions Crowned at Ulster CX Championships at Mallusk

The 2017 Ulster Cyclo-cross Championships were held at Mallusk Playing Fields on the outskirts of Belfast.  The venue had been used last year for the same event and thanks have to be expressed for Glenn Kinning, his club mates at Kinning Cycles and to the other friends from other clubs who helped out as well.  The course threaded its way around the football pitches making great use of the banks and steps.  A sand trap had been created thanks to a lorry load of sand from Quarrystone. … Read more

Snow Capped Mountains Backdrop to Final Round of CX Series

Donard Park in Newcastle was the venue for the 9th and final round of the 2017 Ulster Cyclo-cross Series.  The beautiful park, lying just behind the main promenade of this seaside town, has the backdrop of the Mourne Mountains, which, at this time of the year were topped with snow.  Race day morning was dry with strong winds blowing cold air off the top of the mountains.  Challenging conditions for the gazebos!  A tremendous job by race director Mickey Clarke and the volunteers from the host club Shimna Wheelers and neighbouring clubs for all the preparations and course setup. … Read more

CX Series Continues in Ormeau Park

Ormeau Park in Belfast was the venue for Round 8 of the Ulster Cyclo-cross series with host club, Xmtb providing their expertise in creating courses to suit and challenge all age groups.  Xmtb is well accustomed to putting on events at this venue, especially with their popular Spring series, and thanks have to go to Belfast City council for their continued support.The weather was mild with little wind and occasional outbreaks of sunshine.  The set up was similar to last year with a wide start/finish area and the course making great use of the grass banks.… Read more

Dromara Raise Funds for Children’s Charity

Local cycling club, Dromara Cycling Club, recently presented a cheque for £200 to the Energy for Children Charity. The funds were raised from the club's annual Slieve Croob Hill Climb Challenge which saw dozens of riders complete a gruelling time trial ascent of the mountain. Funds raised will go towards the Energy for Children Charity which provides financial support to groups and individuals that may slip through the net of the wider charity network.

Founded on the principle that 'all monies raised go directly to local children and young people', the Trust aims to reach deeper into the heart of local communities to really make a difference to disadvantaged children's lives.… Read more
