Leisure Events This Week + MTB Sportive

Saturday 16th June 2012 - Maryland Tandem Sportive: On Saturday Maryland Wheelers will promote a tandem only event for Blind and partially sighted cyclists however all tandems are welcome. The venue is the Down Royal Race Course and storage space for bikes has been organised for any bikes which need to be at the location before the 16th June. Bikes can be brought to the Racecourse at 3pm on Thursday 14 and 3pm Friday 15 June - Vicki Moody will be there to let you in.

This is a Tandem only event primarily for blind and partially sighted stokers but all Tandem riders welcome.

The running order on the day will be;
-9.00am Arrival of 45 mile pilots and stokers
-9.30am 45 mile participants depart
-10.30am Arrival of 10 mile and 2 mile pilots and stokers
-11am 10 mile participants depart, 2 mile people begin their circuits
-12noon lunch available until 2pm
Riders have a choice of three routes
45 Mile road circuit through Aghalee/Lurgan/Gilford and Donaghcloney  See Map Link
10 Mile loop round Broomhedge and Flatfield(Riders can do one or more laps) - See Map Link
2 mile laps of Race Course service road(Traffic free)

Sunday 17th June - Bangor Coastal Challenge
This is the eleventh year tha North Down have promoted this very popular event. NDCC are proud to offer a scenic coastal route of 100km around the Ards Peninsula which has few inclines and takes a break in Portaferry for lunch. So whether you are a serious cyclist or a novice wanting to cycle the distance for the first time the NDCC Bangor Coastal Challenge is the event for you!

The Challenge starts and finishes on the Old Belfast Rd. at the Bangor Sportsplex which has ample car parking and changing facilities. En-route there will be water stations, a “broom wagon” for breakdowns etc. and the event will be overseen by local police assisted by an experienced team of marshalls, with motorcycle paramedics and ambulance back-up.

All finishers within the time limit of 8 hours will receive a specially commissioned commemorative T-Shirt.

Facilities on Challenge Day will include

  • ample changing facilities
  • ample car parking
  • lunch at Portaferry

Sperrin MTB Sportive  Promoted By Harps Cycling Club - Sunday 17th June 2012

The race headquarters is Moneymore Recreation Centre, Moneyhaw Road, Moneymore, BT45 7XJ
The event starts at 9am. Sign On From 9am and Go . This is not a massed start event. The entry fee is £20/€25

There are ample shower and changing facilities at event headquarters and refreshments will be provided at control points on the routes. There will also be hot food and sandwiches plus refreshments at finish.

Sunday 17th June 2012 North East Coastal Tour - Carrickmacross
This event is promoted by Carrickmacross CC and starts from the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. Sign-on is from 9.00am with the event due to start at 10.00am. There are two routes on offer a 100km tour and an easier 40km. If we receive further details they willbe posted here.
