10/06/2012 Ernie Magwood Super 6 Round 3 Omagh Road

On a beautiful Sunday morning, which is rare for the Super 6, the testers travelled from all over to the super fast Omagh Rd, which despite being a single carriageway with a dead turn and a low traffic count was the scene of many PBs.

John Heverin yet again won the event and lowered the course record to 20:11, just failing to catch his minute man Gary Jeffers who has been in amazing form on this course all year, as he also recorded a best 21:08. Second was Cathal Doyle, also lowering his PB again to an astounding 20:49. Cathal has been in a hurry recently, as he’s practising for the maternity ward run. With speed like that he may park the car up and use the Argon 18 instead.

A very welcome returning face was Ivan Robinson, who posted a 20:57, which I believe is the same time to the second he achieved on this course last year. Is this the proof that he is actually a robot?

As expected Heather Foley set the pace in the ladies field, taking the win from Dromaras Mary Hunter. Several PBs were recording through the field, Darrell Irwin, Melvin Steele and Gillian Orr, all lowering their times and making their morning worthwhile. Also despite all her admin duties, Sheena ONeill dropped into the 26s as she relentlessly lowers her times this year from mid to low 27’s and then a 26:56. Well done to all, and any others I may have missed out.

Brendan McCourt turned up looking like a crash test dummy, having crashed heavily last week. Amazingly he rode through the pain barrier, with stitches in his face and heavy road rash, and was as fast as usual, stopping the clock at 22:02. For the next event I am taking a baseball bat with me, so that he can get at least one good hammering!
A Huge thanks to East Tyrone  CC members Rod, Anne, Nigel, Christine and Ricky, Island Wheelers, Mark, & Chris, also Maurice Bann Lavery, who didn’t get relaxing and watching the race, and was roped into marshalling the turn, and off course the Hunter family for their timing.
