Up Coming Events

This weekend sees two more races down for decision. On Saturday 24th March, East Tyrone promote their annual CicliSport GP with races for all categories except Under 12's. Applications for the A and B race will only be accepted through the East Tyrone CC website.  The U14, U16 and 50+ and women  can either apply through the website or pay on the day. The race headquarters is the Loup GAC club which proved to be an excellent venue last year. When you are at the staggered crossroads at The Loup take the road towards Ballyronan and the GAC club will be 500 yds on your left.

This is also the first round of the David McCall Cycling Foundation Youth League. Sign-on for the U14 and U16 Youth events is from 9.30am and costs £5. Racing starts at 10.30am with the U14's covering  a total of 30km (two laps of the circuit) while the U16's do three laps giving them a total of 45km.

Senior racing starts at 12.. noon and costs £10. Remember you must pre-enter for the A and B Races. The A race for A1-A3 riders and is 90km, B race for A4's  - 60km and the the Women and 50+Masters will do three laps or 45km.

WeeFoot Junior Trophy

The CicliSport GP is also the first round of the Weefoot trophy For Juniors. The Ulster juniors will see a difference this season with the rest of the league taking in both the McGreevy and Madigan GP, and in between they will see round 3 being based on the final GC of the Rás Dhun na nGall, along with the usual 10 & 25 TT Championships. This should lead to a very interesting league with three of the six rounds being run over climbers courses.

Sunday 25th March - Carn Wheelers Classic promoted by Carn Wheelers

On Sunday 25th March, Carn Wheelers promote their Carn Classic in Tobermore. "A" race will be a handicapped race catering for Categories A1, A2 and A3, while the "B" race will be open to A4's only.  Following on from the success of last year's event Carn Wheelers will also promote two separate races for women and over 50's. Entry for the A and B races is available online.

On the day the "A" race will be a handicapped race catering for Categories A1, A2 and A3, while the "B" race will be open to A4s only.  The 'A' and 'B' races are now currently fully subscribed. 

The Masters/Women race will start at 12:45 with registration open from 11:30 on race day, registration for these events will close at 12:30 to enable the program of races to start on schedule. No pre-entry is needed for these events so just register and pay the race entry (£12) on the day.The Women's race will be 3 laps of the Wood Rd circuit with the Masters race over 4 laps of the same 7 mile circuit.Riders warming up for the 2pm races (A1-A3 & A4) cats should be aware that the Masters & Women's races may still be in progress and should take extra care accordingly.

Please Note -The clocks go forward one hour on the 25th March so we lose an hour and we don't want any disappointed racers missing their start time on race day!

Sunday 1st April - Aghagallon Cup Promoted by Clann Eireann CC

The event will be open to A4 riders only with the first five riders prized.  Sign on will open at 12:00 with the race off at 13:00.  The race will consist of 10 laps of 3.5 mile circuit.  This event is pre entry and online entry is available.

Red Hand Trophy Promoted by Ballymena Northstone Chain Reaction Cycles - Saturday 14th April 2012
The Red Hand Trophy is now open for pre-entry.  The Red Hand Trophy is one of the oldest and most scenic road races on the calendar. It receives full PSNI motorbike outrider support and is known as a tough race.

It is an ideal training race for those contemplating participating in the May Bank Holiday, Tour of Ulster or the An Post Rás later in May.

The Red Hand Trophy  is also the second round of the Slane Cycles Ulster Classic League sponsored by Slane Cycles, Cycling Ulster and the NICF. With Ryan Sherlock of Cycleways leading the league after his fine win in the Wallace Caldwell it will be interesting to see who can step up to the mark on this occasion.

A Race A1,A2,A3 - DISTANCE 6x9 mile circuit 54 miles
B Race A4 and women - distance 4x9 mile circuit 36 miles.

Sunday 6th May - Rás Loughgiel promoted by Duffin Transport Racing Team

Rás Loughgiel will take place on Sunday 6th May and is for A4 riders only. Previously hosted successfully by Ballymoney Cycling Club, the Ras Loughgiel will be an opportunity for A4 racers all over Ulster to sample the efforts of A2/A3 racing with a combination of distance and challenge.

The course will be 54 miles with a combination of flat, steep climbs and fast descents designed to test all riders to their full ability. The race is likely to be one of the most exciting A4 races in the calendar. The event is pre-entry only and is likely to very popular so you are advised to get your entry in early.
