Caroline Ryan Is New Women’s TT Champion

The National Women's and Paracycling Time trial Championships took place last night in Emyvale. The 40km course, which is being used for the Men's Championship tonight, took the riders from Emyvale through Caledon to Aughnacloy and crosses the border on route. The road was fairly busy but was well marshalled by Emyvale CC.

Caroline Ryan of Garda CC recorded the fastest time of 57.31 to take the gold medal while Ulster's own Heather Wilson of Maryland Wheelers added another Champonshiop medal to her collection when she took silver with a time of 59.06.

Jane Kilmartin (Pedales Des Eaux Vives) lifted bronze with a 59.35.

Ulster's only other contender in the event was Bann Wheelers, Kay Hack, who recorded a 1.10.41.

In the tandem Championships only one set of medals was awarded as there were only three entrants in this category. The gold went to Oriol Carbo and Kazak Jankowski of the Henry J Lyons outfit with a time of 56.34.

Chris Burns of Banbridge was competing in the paracycling event and recorded an excellent time of 1.09.27

Perhaps the hardest part of the evening was having the bikes tested on the jig with many bikes needing adjustments to comply with UCI regulations. Unfortunately Louise Fullerton of Ballymena could not get her bike changed in time while Heather Wilson was fortunate to have an alternative bike which she could use.
