Phoenix Women Are Crowned Team Time Trial Champions

The Phoenix Womens team of Therese Smyth, Valerie O'Neill and Amy Brice have been crowned the Ulster Womens Team Trial Champions following their superb performance at the Championship event at Woodgreen last night. The award could not be announced on the night as a delegation of Cycling Ulster officials had to meet to clarify the criteria for the awarding of gold medals. Chairman of Cycling Ulster Tommy Lamb stated "Following a meeting held today it was unanimously agreed that a set of gold medals would be awarded to the women. This is in line with Cycling Ulsters committment to promote equality within our sport." Lamb continued, "I was confident that the championship title would be awarded but I had to wait for official clarification. I apologise that I was unable to inform the girls on the night but I hope they understand my position." The medals will be awarded at the Ulster Champions Night to be held at the end of the season.
