Outstanding Medal Success For Irish Paracyclists in Sydney
The Irish Paracycling Team of Mark Rohan, Cathal Miller and Colin Lynch accompanied by Manager Denis Toomey and Coach Brian Nugent have proved it was worth travelling to Sydney for the opening round of the 2011 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup. In total the team have picked up three gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the competition.This will give them valuable rankings points which will go towards the Paralympics in London in 2012.
On Day 1 Mark Rohan won Gold in a Road Race following a hard fought win against the Canadian athlete after both broke clear on the first lap. On the same day Cathal Miller had a fine 4th place finish in his Road Race.
Day 2 saw the Irish return to the Podium with Colin Lynch taking 2nd place in his C2 Road Race.
In the time trial stages this morning more medals were won when Cathal Millar lifted bronze in the Men's C5 Individual Time Trial and Colin Lynch and Mark Rohan won gold in the Men’s C2 TT and Men’s H1 categories respectively.
Cycling Ulster would like to congratulate the entire squad on a marvellous performance over the weekend of racing.
