Sloan Takes Ards By Storm

Kirk Sloan won the Ards Town Centre race tonight with a great solo effort. He attacked at half distance in the 30 minutes plus five laps race and despite a concerted chase by Castlereagh CCs Glen Kinning Kirk was a plpular winner 43 seconds clear of Kinning. North Downs Paul Ferguson was third at 1.11 with Micky Murray (Clann Eireann) fourth and best junior to win the Simon Hamill memorial Shield.
Lindsay Gamble (Ards) finished ninth and best third cat. senior which was a good performance in his first open race for several years.
The novice race was won by Ben Watson from Bangor with Ards CC girl Nikiita Stanfield second and Emma Gordon from Ballymena third.
Ryan Orr (Old Bleach) won the under 12 race with Ciara Mulholland (Clann Eireann) best in the Under 14 event. East Antrims Aaron Baines won the Under 16 race from Nathan McLeer (North Down) second and Irish U16 Track Champion David Neill third after a spill on the last lap.
The weather did affect the turn out but a total of forty five took paert and the rain stopped as the first races began.
Ryan Wightman finished in 8th place in the main race but he definitly was the furthest travelled rider as the big American is here to go to a friends wedding. Ryan also raced at the Dromera and Cookstown road races last weekend
