Final Pics and Roundup of Rás Dhun na nGall

aaThe 27th Rás Dhun na nGall ended on a high note this evening when the race produced its first Donegal winner in the form of 16 year old Conor Halvey from Donegal. Halvey kept a cool head throughout the weekend and never lost sight of the overall goal. He used his knowledge of the roads that he had trained on so often to save his strength when possible and drive on when needed. I think we will be seeing a lot more from this young man.

The event always attracts a good field not only of riders but supporters. Without a doubt though,  the crew from Tir Chonaill GAP (Glenties, Ardara, Portno), must take top prize when it comes to support. With a lone rider in the race they still came out every day to cheer him on. There was no way Peter McGee could drop out with support like that.

The race provides opportunities for clubs to get a taste of what it takes to fully support a team in a stage race. Bann Wheelers were among those who went all out this year to provide that support for their team with gazebos set up to shelter them during warm up to having the recovery food ready as soon as they finished.

Race Director, John Curran had words of praise and thanks for all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. He began by thanking the Nesbitt Arms Hotel for both its sponsorship but also the hospitality shown to all the riders and their friends. He went on thank the Ardara Traders who not only provided much needed sponsorship but willingly gave support in kind such as Maloney's garage giving up its forecourt for the time trial stage.

He praised all the volunteers who drove cars, set up barriers, route markers, commissaires and marshalls. Without their support the race would not be possible. He hoped they would all be around next year when once again Rás Dhun na nGall provides exciting racing over the three days.
