Congratulations to Hargan and Madden

Following the National Masters Championships yesterday Ulster has two new All Ireland champions as Sean Hargan of Phoenix CC won the M60 event with Ballycastle man, John Madden (Inspired Cycling) taking the Champions jersey in the M50 event.

The racing took place  over a rolly 27km course around Kilcullen, Co. Kildare organised by Orwell Wheelers.  In the M60 race Sean Hargan of Phoenix CC  opened up a gap on the main field on the start of the penultimate lap. Sean , who is a well known time triallist then used these skills an put his head down to time trial to the finish holding a thirty second gap back to the main field.  Seventy five year old legend of Irish cycling, Sean Lally (Smartlamp) won the silver medal in a bunch sprint with Jimmy Flynn of Cuchuluinn taking the bronze.

In the M50 race John Madden (Inspired Cycling) broke away from the large main field with Donal Mahon of Galway Bay.These two maintained their lead over the hard chasing peloton right to theend and it was by the closest of margins that Madden took the National title.

Paul Bolger of Slaney CC got away with Newry's Des Woods and in a two-up sprint just ousted Woods to take the bronze medal.

All of the Ulster Cycling News Web Team would like to congratulate Sean and John on their achievements.
