Ras Dhun na nGall 2016The Four Masters Cycling Club, in conjunction with the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and the Ardara Town Traders, will be hosting the 2016 Rás Dhun na nGall three-day stage race that takes place in Ardara, Co. Donegal on the 3rd, 4th & 5th June. This year is the 26th anniversary of the first running of the event and Four Masters look forward to celebrating this with a great competitive race over the weekend. Information about the race is available will be updated over the next few weeks on the club website, www.fourmasterscycling.com and club Facebook page.

The race is open to A2 and A3, Women and Veteran riders with a minimum of an A3 competition licence and is limited to 200 riders this year. Stages are similar to last year’s event.
Stage 1, on Friday evening, is a 50 km loop from Ardara towards Glenties, then through Frosses, Dunkineely, heading towards Killybegs, turning right, over “The Nick” back to the finish in Ardara. This will be a fast stage that with two minor climbs may cause a few splits.

Stage 2, on Saturday morning, is a 4km mountain time trial starting beside the Maghera Caves, outside Ardara. This tough climb will separate the men from the boys and will open out the General Classification. Wind conditions as well as the gradient of the course will be factors to determine who will be wearing the leader’s jersey at the end of the stage.

Stage 3, To Be Confirmed

Stage 4, on Sunday morning, is a 100km route that follows a figure of 8 loop south, then north of Ardara, passing through Dunkineely, Hillhead, Glenties, Maas, Ardara, culminating on a mountain finish at the top of Glengesh. This finish has proved to be very exciting since its introduction a few years ago and will again this year will be the last battleground to sort out the eventual General Classification.

The racing will be hard and fast on the Donegal roads with plenty of spectacular scenery and good Ardara hospitality as a bonus. As this event is taking place on public roads, we advise that all participants, marshals, race vehicles and non-race vehicles proceed with caution and take heed of any advice given by Gardai. There may be some traffic delays in the Ardara area over the weekend due to the race. We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend and that the weather will be kind to us for the 26th anniversary. So come to Ardara and enjoy an excellent and challenging stage race.
