Feast of Leisure Events This Weekend

There are lots of leisure events on this weekend around the country, many of them being promoted to raise money for very worthwhile causes. On Saturday 26th Ballycastle promote their sportif for Roddensvale School. On Sunday Omagh Wheelers promote Sam's Cycle, Emyvale CC run their Bike the Blackwater, and La Lanterne Rouge promote their annual Paul McKibbon cycle. Full details of all events can be viewed below. These are the only events about which I can find information but if there are others please send details to marianlamb@ulstercyclingnews.com and I will update this post.

Saturday 26th September : Ballycastle Sportive

Ballycastle cycling club are organising a sponsored charity cycle in aid of two charities namely Roddensvale School of which John Maden is the principal and the Super Six Club . The aim is to purchase an Acheeva Learning Station for pupils. Roddensvale is also a registered charity through their Parents and Friends Association. Last year John Madden managed to raise nearly one thousand pounds for the pupils through his cycling activities cycling so hopes to achieve something similar in 2015. This is a very worthwhile charity so please go along and give a fellow cyclist your support. Gordon Parker is helping to organise the event.

Super Six Club is a Charity that gives an opportunity for children with a physical disability to take part in sport.

There are 4 Marshalled routes for all abilities , 25km,50km, 80km, 125km. All proceeds will be divided amoung 2 charites  Roddensvale School and Super Six club. There are food stops along the route and refreshments will be provided at the finish. Medals will be provided to all online entries. You can register online HERE.

Sign-on at 9.00am from Sheskburn Recreation Centre in Ballycastle with the event starting at 10.00am. Entry fee £20.

Sunday 27th September 2015 - Bike the Blackwater
The popular Bike the Blackwater cross border tour covering four counties is back this year on Sunday 27th September. It begins from the Navan Fort centre in Armagh and there will be a 120k and a 60k route to choose from. Registration takes place from 8am. The 120k tour leaves at 9am and the 60k at 9.15. The start/finish will be the Navan centre with the route the same as last years. There will be refreshments on the route and full back up service provided by Emyvale CC. The route covers the four counties of Monaghan, Armagh, Tyrone and Fermanagh and is at times challenging but very scenic. It should be a great day of cycling for all involved. Online registration is available on www.blackwaterregion.com or you can register on the day. Entry is €15 or £10. Everyone will get a meal voucher for finishing the event and refreshments on the route.

Sunday 27th September 2015 - Paul McKibbon Memorial Cycle

This event is promoted by La Lanterne Rouge. Sign-on at Loughinisland GAC, 7 Teconnaught Road, Loughinisland, Downpatrick, Co Down

Sign on from 09:00hrs.  Riders depart from 10:00hrs

Car parking, toilet & changing facilities available.

The pre-entry fee for the event is £13 for those who hold a current Cycling Ireland licence.  Anyone without a Cycling Ireland licence must pay an extra £1 at sign on for a compulsory One Day Licence, which provides third party and personal accident insurance cover for the day.

Pre-entry for the event will close on Thursday 24th September 2015 at 23:59hrs.   On the day the entry fee will be £15 for those who hold a current Cycling Ireland licence. Click HERE to Enter.

Proceeds from the sportive are in aid of Daisy Lodge – Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
