New Combative Rider Rás Award Launched

Grant Thornton, one of Ireland's leading accounting and advisory firms, is proud to sponsor the new Combative Rider Award, in the FBD RÁS 2006. This award acknowledges the most pro-active and attacking rider of the RAS and will be judged over the eight days of the event. The Grant Thornton Combative Rider Award was formed to ensure that team riders who compete impressively for their team mates or individuals who offer a particularly brave display of cycling are duly recognised in the overall prize giving.

Grant Thornton will be calling on members of the Irish press to act as judges of this award and the winner will be announced on the last day of the event, due to finish in Skerries, on May 28th.

Gearoid Costello, Partner at Grant Thornton said: "Grant Thornton is already sponsoring the Irish Team in the RÁS , and we thought this would be a nice addition to re-enforce our commitment to cycling in Ireland. Who knows, maybe some of the members of Grant Thornton Team Ireland will end up battling for it!"

The race organisers decided to introduce this new award as it is thought it might encourage an even greater level of combative racing throughout the event.

This year's FBD Insurance RÁS will begin in Dublin on May 21st and finish eight days and over 1200 kilometres later in Skerries. The world-ranking race will also feature exciting stage finishes in Enniscorthy, Cobh, An Daingean, Listowel, An Cheathru Rua, Westport and Clara.
