Rain stops play at the National Youth Track Championships at Orangefield
The National Youth Track Championships in Belfast did not go quite according to plan, or to the weather forecast for Saturday 18 July 2015. A fine but breezy morning saw riders travel from Donegal, Dublin, Limerick, Kanturk, Westport and the closer counties of Ulster to take part in a full days programme which included Time Trials, Sprint and Scratch title races.
The sprint qualifiers ran off in fine conditions; but grey clouds gathered as riders were preparing for the Time Trial events. We managed to get these events completed in damp conditions, however when the rain turned heavier we took the decision to break for lunch, with a half hour hopefully seeing the showers blow through with the strong westerly breeze.
This did not happen, and will all internet weather forecast `apps` consulted - including an extremely accurate Norwegian one, it was decided to curtail the days activities.
Hopefully the Sprint and Scratch events can be concluded when we gather back at Orangefield on Saturday 15th August for the National Youth Inter-Provincial event.
