Tough conditions at the British NPS Round 1

The first round of the British NPS Cross-country series took place over the weekend at Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire. The aim of the Cycling Ulster MTB XC squad for 2015 is to compete at all five of the British rounds. Selected onto the squad were Matthew Adair (Xmtb McConvey Cycles), James Curry (Banbridge CC) and Sean Bradley (Carn Wheelers). Unfortunately Matthew was unable to attend due to last minute work issues. Jeff Ballantine and Simon Curry took the guys over on the Friday evening on the overnight boat to arrive on Saturday in time for practice.

The course at Sherwood is not very technical and was described on Saturday as "blistering fast" but the forecast for the Sunday race was not looking promising.

James and Sean were entered into the Junior Men category. The weather on Sunday had turned to "horrendous". James had a strong ride to finish 6th however it wasn't going quite so well for Sean who was struggling with gear issues dropping him down to 34th.

A big thank you to Jeff and Simon for volunteering their time to look after two riders.

There was another squad of Ulster riders who travelled over separately to this round and their results are shown below.
Claire Oakley (Xmtb McConvey Cycles) - 17th - Elite Female
Gareth McKee (Banbridge CC) - 18th - Elite Men
Stuart Ballantine (Xmtb McConvey Cycles) - 45th Elite Men
Graham Boyd (Xmtb McConvey Cycles) - 47th Elite Men
