Events this Weekend

There is lots on offer this weekend to suit all tastes and abilities. With races on Saturday and Sunday, the first of the Ulster XC  Series on Sunday and a couple of leisure events throow oin for good measure riders are spoilt for choice.

Spires GP RR Saturday 7th March
On Saturday the 7th of March, Spires CC will be holding their annual Grand Prix road race on the Ballyronan/ ‘three road ends’/ Loup circuit. The club would like to invite everyone to come along and watch what looks to be a great day's racing.

Sign on from 10:15am to 11:30am at The Ballyronan Marina Centre, Ballyronan with racing starting at 12,oo noon. This was a ore-entry event which is now full.

There are two races on offer as follows

The Cathcarts Centra Spires GP (A Race) - for A* A1, A2 and A3 – to be 6 laps of race circuit – 50 miles approx (80 rider limit + waiting list)

B Race - for A4 only and 4 laps of circuit – 32 miles approx (80 rider limit + waiting list)

Car Parking - Ballyronan Marina  - Showers will be available at  Ballyronan Marina Centre

McCann Cup Sunday 8th March

This year the McCann Cup will have a new race Headquarters at the Ecclesville Centre, Ecclesville Road, Fintona, with riders rolling out from there for less than a mile to reach the start of the traditional 9.7 mile circuit. The finish line has also changed to a point further along the Tattyreagh Raod (B122) than previous, just short of its junction with the Carnalea Road (B46).

Race 1 Masters / 50+ Sign-on: 10:00 - 10:45am  Distance 3 Laps (30 Miles) - Start Time 11:00am

Race 2 Women - Sign-on: 10:00 - 10:45am  Distance 3 Laps (30 miles) - Start Time 11:05am

Race 3 A1 / A2            Sign-on: 11:30 - 12:45, Distance 7 Laps (70 miles) - Start Time 13:00pm

Race 4 A3                   Sign-on: 11:30 - 12:45, Distance 6 Laps (60 miles) Start Time 13:05pm

Race 5 A4                   Sign-on: 11:30 - 12:45pm Distance 4 Laps (40 miles) Start Time 1:10pm

There are still vacancies in the A1/A2, the Masters and the Women races and entries will be accepted
on the day for these 3 events. The A3 and A4 races are however full, with long waiting lists in place.

First off will be the Masters Race at 11.00am, followed by the Women's Race at 11.05am. Both races will cover 3 laps of the circuit. Please note that this year's Masters event will be open to all M50 licence holders, regardless of grading, and also includes 50 year old Limited Competition licence holders.At 1pm, the main race of the day, for A1 and A2 riders, gets underway and covers 7 laps of the circuit.

This is followed by the A3 race (6 laps) and the A4 race (4 laps).Omagh Wheelers promise their usual renowned hospitality, with showers and refreshments afterwards for all riders at the Ecclesville Centre.

Sunday 8th March - BCC Camlough's Spring Sixty Lesiure Run for Charity
Registration with tea and coffee opens at 9.00am at Carrickcruppen  Clubhouse.  All must riders be at the start line for 10.00am. Entry is £15.

The Spring Sixty is a Cycle Sportive and as such the event is open to cyclists of all abilities from novice to advanced. Jmc Cycles will be providing technical back before and during the event, checking tyre pressure and chains etc before the off. The  halfway stop is held courtesy of the award winning Fitzpatrick's Restaurant where each participant will be treated to hot soup and breads to warm them up then onward to the finishing line.

Each finisher is treated to a warm welcome and medal at the finish line plus a wholesome hot meal provided by Gortrush Foods with tea and coffee to replenish their spent reserves. The atmosphere is always lively!

On the day local business Aine’s Kitchen will be providing free dietry advice tailored specifically towards the needs of cyclists performance and recovery, also in attendance will be local charity Cancer Focus giving advice on hydration, lifestyle and general well being .
The Spring Sixty is fully endorsed by Cycling Ireland and is a fully supervised event with Lead Marshal coordinating the Static and Motorbike marshals. The sometimes dreaded but mostly welcomed ‘Broom Wagon’ will be there on the day for anyone that runs out of steam and needs swept up and transported back to the clubhouse.

 

BCC Spring Sixty

Members from BCC Camlough Cycling Club at this years launch of The Spring Sixty Sportive which takes place on Sunday 8th March starting from Carrickcruppen Clubhouse.

This year's chosen charity will be PIPS Newry and Mourne, so whilst all entrants will be having a blast on the day when making their way around the 60k circuit they will also be helping to support this hard working and honourable local charity who carry out sterling work on all our behalf within the local community.

Round 1 Ulster Cross-country Mountain Bike Series Sunday 8th March

The event will take place at Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor. Host club Dromara CC has been running an XC race at this location since the new trail centre opened in 2013. The event headquarters will be based in the caravan park located beyond the café. Riders are asked to park in the MTB car park and to follow the instruction from the event stewarts.

Sign on opens on Sunday at 9:30. The course will be open for practice on Saturday afternoon.The 2015 Ulster Cross-country Mountain Bike Series starts this Sunday, 8 March, at Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor.
