Tour of Down and 2 RT’s this Weekend

There is lots of choice for cyclists around Ulster this coming weekend. For off road enthusiasts XMTB McConvey Cycles will be hosting their Spring Series in Ormeau Park (see separate story) while West Down Wheelers will promote their annual Tour of Down on Saturday 14th Feb 2015. In the North West, Omagh are putting on no less than four events including a Youth Reliability Trian on Sunday 15th while in Lisburn, Maryland Wheelers will promote their annual RT which has the reputation of being one of the hardest on the calendar.

Tour of Down -Saturday 14th Feb 2015
This will be the 5th year WDW will be hosting the Tour of Down leisure cycling challenge which departs the Co Down village of Katesbridge. There are 2 planned routes on offer:
Route “A” 65 mile departing at 10.00am from Katesbridge – Castlewellan – Newcastle – Annalong – Ballymartin – Kilkeel – Rostrevor up the Newton road climb to Hilltown – Castlewellan and finishing at Katesbridge
Route “B” 43 mile departing at 10.05am from Katesbridge – Castlewellan – Newcastle – Bryansford - Hilltown – Castlewellan and finishing at Katesbridge

Sign on is from 9.00am at Katesbridge hall – changing facilities, toilets and car parking available. Parking also available opposite side of Katesbridge road in the picnic area.

Please note the Tour of Down is not a race and will be a controlled event and helmets are compulsory.
Marshalls will be on route but may not be present at all junctions
In the event of icy weather we will turn at Kilkeel roundabout....

Omagh Wheelers Reliability Trial and Leisure Cycles - Sunday 15th February

Omagh Wheelers is hosting their first official event of the year, with the traditional Valentine’s Reliability Trial on Sunday next. However this will be much more than a one-route event with something on offer for all cyclists regardless of ability or age.First off will be the 75 mile reliability trial which follows the now traditional loop into Fermanagh before turning left at Ederney to head to Castlederg, and then back to Omagh via Drumquin.

Next off will be the 60 mile reliability run. This will follow the same route as the 75 mile event as far as Ederney where riders will then head directly back to Omagh.

Third off will be a 50 mile youth reliability trial which will take in a direct run from Omagh to Ederney and then on to Castlederg before heading back to Omagh.

Fourth will be the 50 mile leisure event, this taking in the same route as the youth reliability event.

Fifth will be an U14 30 mile event and finally a 30 mile leisure event taking in the same route.

The event is based around Youth Sport, Omagh. Sign-On is open from 8.45am and closes strictly at 9.40am, with first bikes away at 10.00am sharp. Entry fee is £10 or €12,

Showers available and refreshments for all participants afterwards.

Maryland Wheelers Reliability Trial Sunday 15th February
