Spires Celebrate In Style

aSpires CC, which is based in the heart of Mid Ulster, in Magherafelt, held their annual prizegiving and awards night at the weekend.

This relatively new club has continued to expand in the past few years and have grown their membership to include youth and women. This was obvious at the prize night as there were quite a few women receiving prizes on the night.

Spires CC are heavily involved in their local community running skills days and general interaction with community groups. The club has an excellent PRO as is witnessed by the number of times that the club is featured in the Mid Ulster Mail and Observer. The role of PRO should not be underestimated and we would advise all clubs to prioritise this role in 2015.

The club members take part in interclub events while the club also promote an open road race, a Time Trial Trilogy and a leisure event. Not bad for a new club!!.

Spires CC would like to wish all their club members, friends, family and all the other cycle clubs in the local Mid Ulster area, a very Merry Christmas and that they look forward to many hours of happy and successful and safe cycling and events in 2015.

Thanks to their hard working PRO, Roisin Kerrr, they have come up with a novel way to report on their club dinner and the follow on club ride the next day. - Enjoy.

Happy Christmas 2014 from Spires CC

Spires CC have had their Christmas party,
At the end of November...it was a little early.
But that did not matter as we need no excuse
To have a rare night, out on the booze.

The weekend kicked off with the usual club run,
Nearly 40 turned out to join in the fun.
And no better way to build up an appetite,
Than a couple of hours out on the bike.

3-Mark-and-SeamusThen later on 65 of us came together
For a night out on the tiles to remember forever.
And as Pandy Walshe belted out the tunes
The Spires CC crowd joined in with his croons.

With Seamus the Spires Chairperson leading the dancing,
Michael Flatfoot would have been proud of his prancing.
The merriment went on into early morning
Until everyone left…stifling the yawning

A brilliant night was had by all and sundry
The prize winners especially, were all of a quandary.
Carmel who picked up the most improved female cyclist
Decided the ‘hangover’ outing was the next on her list.

1Carmel..Most-improved-femaOur Treasurer Stephen arranged the post party trip,
To arrive at Portglenone without any slips
The frost on the road might have changed some’s view
But the die-hards among were already in the fry-up queue!

As Spires CC 'Christmas Doo' weekend came to end
Everyone agreed that there was no need to defend.
That an event without Lycra is the best way to see
How everyone in Spires CC loves to PARTY!!!
