21/09/2014 Mixed Two-Up – Toome Course

aaPhoenix Take Honours in Two Up

The annual mixed two up time trial took place on Sunday in glorious sunshine. The event which had been cancelled last year was resurrected this year by the hard working Church Island Cycling club. Unfortunately due to the rescheduled Women's and Vets national Championship falling on the same weekend some of the regular contenders were missing.

Five teams took to the line on the Toome course and were timed off by Gordon Parker. Favourites were Eileen and Jason Burns of Ballymena CRC as Eileen has been putting in some super times in recent events.

Other teams included Sheena O'Neill and Darren Boyd of Island Wheelers, Laura Blair and Andrew Torrie (Ballymena CRC), Lisa Millar and Andrew McAnulty (Dromara CC) and Mark Brown and Karen Hull of Phoenix CC.

Weather conditions were absolutely perfect with warm sunshine and no wind.

In the end the Ballymena couple of Eileen and Jason Burns recorded a good 25.01 but as the Phoenix duo powered across the line it was clear that they had taken the win recording an excellent 24.14.

The winners were presented with trophies by Jonny Eagleson , chairman of Church Island Cycling. Thanks are due to the club members who turned out to help and to Gordon and Ali for the time keeping.
