Phoenix CC hosts successful open 27 mile TT
Phoenix Cycling Club put on an open time trial on Tuesday 22nd July 2014. The original venue at the Airport Road at Moira was considered to be too busy to host a safe event and the race committee decided to change the location to the Nutts Corner Circuit. The layout was of a circuit TT taking in just over 3 laps to make up a distance of approximately 27 miles using the Seven Mile Straight and Long Rig Road.
Gary Jeffers (East Tyrone) was the fastest on the night completing the course in 62 minutes 15 seconds. Des Woods (Newry Wheelers) finished on 62:40 with host club's Mark Millar just finishing inside 63 minutes to take third fastest. The tandem duo of Eve McCrystal and Katie-George Dunleavy were fourth quickest in a time of 63:41 with the fastest solo female, Keri Parton (Dromara CC), finishing in 71:51.
A great event laid on by Phoenix CC on a pleasant, warm evening. Sadly the road conditions on parts of the course played havoc causing several punctures.
