Grand Italian Fundraiser Sunday 27th April Promoted by Phoenix CC
Phoenix Cycling Club is getting set to host its "Grand Italian Fundraiser" on 27th April, giving club members and cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to take part in a sportive along part of stage 2 of the 2014 Giro d’Italia race route. The 80k sportive, which will start and end at the Grove Wellbeing Centre on York Road in Belfast, will take in some of Northern Ireland’s most iconic sights as it makes it way towards the Causeway Coast. All money raised from the cycle challenge will be donated to local charity Friends of the Cancer Centre, which works to support cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland.

The Giro d’Italia is the biggest cycling event to come to Northern Ireland and in only a few short weeks, we will have some of the biggest names in cycling descend on Belfast to take part in this once in a lifetime event. As a club, we are very excited about the Giro d’Italia and we wanted to help create some buzz locally ahead of the main event. We thought there was no better way to do that than to offer people the chance to cycle part of the official route and get a taste of what the professionals will experience.

We also realised that this was a fantastic opportunity to raise money for charity and as Friends of the Cancer Centre is close to the hearts of many members of the club, we thought it was a fitting recipient. Thanks to the support of our sponsors at McConvey Cycles, Traction (formerly Lease Options) and Hewitt and Gilpin Solicitors, the club will be able to contribute the entire net income of the challenge to Friends of the Cancer Centre. So not only will people have the opportunity to take part in an amazing sportive during one of the most exciting times for local cycling, but they will also be able to help us raise vital funds to help support cancer patients across Northern Ireland.

An outline of the route is available HERE

In keeping with the Italian theme pasta and fresh Italian bread will be served at the lunch stop in Ballygalley
