Tour of Down Saturday 15th February

This Saturday West Down Wheelers will be promoting their annual Tour of Down which has become very popular in the last few year's. Part of this could be due to the hardworking Barbara's and their catering committee who put on such a good spread of food after the event.

This year the club will promote the charity run in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation. The Tour of Down has two route options - the longer route will cover 65 mile and is generally a reliability type run with an average speed of approx 18mph. The shorter run will cover 43 mile is aimed at the "sportive" cyclist but it will still be a good workout even at an approx speed of 14mph.so there is something for everyone. Both runs will be starting and finishing at Katesbridge Hall.

The 60 mile coastal route takes you through Castlewellan, Newcastle,  Kilkeel,  Rostrevor, Hilltown, Castlewellanand back to Katesbridge. The 40 takes you to Castlewellan,  Newcastle,  turning right at the traffic lights at the Donald carpark , keep on left hand lane up to Bryansford Rd.Head for Hilltown Turning right at bottom of Hilltown back to Castlewellan and then to Katesbridge. All roads will be well marked so look out for the signs.

Where possible riders are asked to keep together in bunches especially along the coast road in order to allow traffic to pass smoothly as riders strung out all over the road make it more difficult for cars to pass safely.

The broom wagon will leave half an hour after the second run starts. Participants will be provided with the contact details of the broom wagon if they get into difficulty.Licence  will be checked at signon so make sure you bring yours along or a printout that the licence has been applied for.

There will be refreshments back at hall and there is  plenty of car parking space this year so no parking opposite house entrys Please park at the at hall. Marshalls will be about so feel free to ask them any questions.
