Lots of Reliability Trials this Weekend Including Youth RT

Maryland reliability Sunday February  16th 2014
Maryland Wheeler’s annual reliability trial takes place around south Down Sunday 16h February. This year, the trial will again start and finish at the Lisburn Square car park adjacent to the new bus station. Toilets are available in the bus station.

  • Sign-on opens at 8.30am and closes at 9.20am
  • As it is a reliability trial riders should note that it is their responsibility to ensure that the condition of their bicycle, and themselves, is sufficient for them to complete the distance. Reliabilities are not a race but are very much about riders completing the event under their ‘own steam’ and without external assistance.
  • The entrance fee is £5 and all riders are expected to hold a valid Cycling Ireland license. One day licences will be available at the cost of £2 for non-members. Helmets are compulsory.
  • Riders should note that rules of the road must be strictly adhered to and that Stewards at junctions are only there to indicate direction and will not stop traffic. There will be a lead vehicle for each group and the pace of the groups will be controlled by experienced riders within each group. Riders are advised that the lead vehicles are not to be overtaken during the ride.
  • This year, like last year, the ‘A’ group will leave at 9.30 am sharp, followed by the ‘B’ run at 9.35 am.
  • The distance is approximately 75 miles. The target speed for the ‘A’ group is an average of 20mph while the target speed for the ‘B’ group is an average of 17mph.
  • The route will follow our traditional one, heading directly out the A1 carriageway to Banbridge before turning left for Castlewellan. Once into Castlewellan, the groups take right and head down to Newcastle where they then veer left towards Dundrum Note this year we will be stopping at the traditional  lay-by entering Dundrum for refreshments. There are toilet facilities here. Moving swiftly on, the groups will move to Downpatrick  via Clough.
  • From Downpatrick the route will proceed directly to Killyleagh before turning left  and crossing over to Saintfield. At Saintfield the route will return to Lisburn via Temple.
  • The route can be accessed on Mapmyride: HERE

Please Note: This RT is one of the toughest of the season and is not for beginners.
