Swinand and Dunbar Claim All Ireland Titles

gsOn Saturday Omagh Wheelers promoted  the National Veteran's and Junior Time Trial Championships. While weather conditions were not exactly ideal with contestants facing a biting wind, Omagh Wheelers ensured however that everything else was in place.

There were lots of marshalls around the course and the usual Omagh Wheelers hospitality went some way to warm the participants.

Greg Swinand of Usher IRC put in a supreme effort to lift the coveted National Time with his time of 53.16, over a minute and a half faster then well known Ulster time triallist, John Heverin of Clann Eireann who lifted the silver medal. This was also a record for this particular course which is used by several local clubs.

Chris Troy of Castlebar took the bronze medal with his 55.39 just ahead of our own Mark Greer of Maryland Wheelers whose 56.25 shows tht he is really beginning to come back on form again.

President of Cycling Ireland, Rory Wyley, was also present for the event and while he has had little or no time to train this year he still managed a respectable 63:52 beating the 'Comeback King', well know tester, Simon 'Sox' Stockton of Team Madigan by two seconds.

In the Junior |event it was Eddie Dunbar of O'Leary Stone Kanturk who had the legs on th eday to take the gold medal and the National Junior TT Title. Dunbar recorded a time of 54:48 to beat Dromore's Mark Downey (Nichols ROche DT) who took silver with his 55:13. Sean Hahessy of Iverk Produce Carrick Wheelers took bronze with 56:55.

Omagh Wheelers are to be congratulated for rising to the challenge and promoting such an excellent event. They continue their hard work today with the promtotion of the National A3 and Junior Road Races. This will be very interesting event particularly in the Junior race. Cycling Ulster would like to wish Omagh Wheelers and all the participants the very best of luck today.
