West Down Acknowledge Club Winners

West Down Wheelers held their annual dinner and awards night in the Belmont Arms in Banbridge at the weekend. Following an excellent meal the award ceremony was opened by Billy Maxwell who welcomed the new members to the club. He proceeded to pull no punches regarding the amount of training they would need to be doing if they intended to make good cyclists.

Clive Adamson them took the the floor. Well known as the 'Grand High Executioner' of the club there were a few nervous people in the audience as Clive launched into his speech.

Few people were left untouched and the there was a lot of laughter as he summed up each of the award winners. The crowd were also entertained with a series of pictures of each winner in action which had been put together by Geoffrey Toal. Paul Wilkinson emerged once again as the club champion and received a great round of applause while the hard working David Cartmill was announced as Clubman of the Year.

New cups were presented by  Derek Gamble (The Presidents Cup) to Paul Wilkinson  and Jonny Cromie (The Cromie Cup) to Sam Cantley.

This was followed by an extremely amusing slide show put together by David Cartmill. This has become the focal point of the club dinners over the past few years and David certainly knows how to best capture the club members and there was plenty of laughter as each captioned picture appeared on screen.

Marian Lamb congratulated the club on their continued growth and their caring attitude to new members who are well supported within the club. She praised the committee of Derek Gamble, Billy Maxwell, David Cartmill and Clive Adamson for all their hard work throughout the year and applauded the club members who give of their time to mashall events or provide the catering.

She also congratulated the committee on always bringing something new to the club. In 2012 they had a new kit designed and for 2013 they have produced an excellent calendar featuring lots of photos of club members. With a clear 'month to view' on each page there is also a daily notes section on each page to allow riders to log in their miles or target events for the year. She wished the club continued success for 2013.
