Irvine Lifts Second Silver in Glasgow Track World Cup

Martyn Irvine added another silver medal on day two of the second round of the UCI Track World Cup in Glasgow. The Ulsterman who has been in superb form this weekend qualified as second fastest in the men's individual pursuit and was edged out in the gold medal ride off by the Olympic omnium champion, Norman Lasse Hansen from Denmark. Irvine set a new personal best of 4.22.745 for the 4km distance in the final.

On Friday evening the Newtownards native rode a very aggressive scratch race to lift what was Ireland's second ever medal in a round of the Track World Cup Series. Irvine rode the Omnium event at the Olympic Games in August but is focusing his attention on the scratch race and individual pursuit in Glasgow this weekend. The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist will be hoping he has set down a marker for further success in the Chris Hoy Velodrome for himself and the province when it stages the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
