12/05/2016 Ciclisport Glenshane TT Series – Round 1

Christie and Burns in Top Form at Opening Round of Carn Wheelers TT Series
The new TT Series being promoted by Carn Wheelers got off to a fine start this evening on the Glenshane Pass. All six rounds will take place on this course. The first round took place last night in dry and sunny conditions. However despite the seemingly ideal conditions testers faced swirling winds which made the going tough both on the way out and on the way back.

Marcus Christie of Causeway CC topped the leader board on the night with his blistering 19:57.50 time for the ten miles showing that he still has a powerful engine and will always be someone to beat.… Read more

Time Trials this Week

The cycling discipline of testing yourself against the clock or time trialling is increasing in popularity in Ulster and this week sees no less than five open time trials around the province as well as a number of interclub TT's. 05/05/2016 Cathcart Centra Spires TT Trilogy Round 1

The Cathcart Centra Spires CC Trilogy kicked off this evening with the ten mile time trial on the Toome circuit. Craig McAuley of Caldwell Cycles was fastest on the night recording a 20.33 followed in by Craig Rea of Phoenix at 21.16. Ali Gribbon of Carn Wheelers who has been riding strongly all year took a well deserved third place with his 21.28.

Fastest of the women on the night was Eileen Burns oF Ballymena CRC who recorded a 22.40. Phoenix CC's Karn Hull was next with a 24.59 followed by Joanne Regan of Termoneeny CC who did the course in a time of 25.09.… Read more

Madden and Burns Top the Leader Board in Jimmy Devlin 10
John Madden of Inspired Cycling notched up yet another time trial victory when he won the Jimmy Devlin Memorial 10 mile time trial tonight at Woodgreen. The event, promoted by Phoenix CC, saw almost seventy riders turn out on what proved to be a calm but cool evening. John took the victory with a 20:30, just one second faster than second placed rider Neil Clarke of Team Asea. Paul Carroll of Velo Café Magasin was third a further six seconds behind while Christian Natchtigall of Phoenix was fourth with a 20:41.… Read more

Burns is a Fast Woman

WomensPodiumEileen Burns of Ballymena CRC continued to prove today that she really is a 'fast woman'. Accompanied by her husband, Jason, another well known time triallist she traveled to Wales this weekend to take part in the Welsh 25 mile Time Trial Championships today. Holder of numerous time trial records already, today she recorded a 54:17 for the twenty five miles. This is a minute faster than the previous Irish record time of 55:16 held by Avril Swan. Avril Swan of Team Endura set a new Irish Woman's record by covering the 25 mile Port Talbot course in 55 minutes and 15seconds.… Read more

Hardy Young Testers at Omagh’s Youth TT

In what only can be described as cold and windy conditions  a few hardy young riders braved the elements to take part in Omagh Wheelers Capital Reinforcing Youth Time Trial League. The time trial was a straight out five mile course.  Shaun McBride was chief time keeper and Omagh Wheelers members were in attendance to help out.

In the Under 16 event Aaron Wiley recorded at 12:40, a great time in such poor conditions. The Under 14 race saw another Omagh rider, Joseph Owens,, record a 14:42 while his club-mate, Rachel McBride, clocked a 17:53.

Time Trial News and a Host of Upcoming TT’s – Updated

5The discipline of time trials commonly known as the 'race of truth' has been growing in popularity in Ulster over the years and now many clubs are beginning to run their own individual open events or promote TT series such as the Super 6 series promoted by Island Wheelers. The latest club to come on board to facilitate the 'testers' with a new series is Carn Wheelers who will be  promoting a new series on time trials on the Glenshane Pass. Phoenix CC will also be hosting an open time trial shortly as will Omagh Wheelers who will be including events for youth riders.  … Read more

Weekend Road and Off Road Competitive Events

Orchard CC TT Cancelled
The Orchard CC promoted Time Trial which was due to take place on Saturday 23rd April has been cancelled. This is because the Tandragee 100 is taking place on that day on the same circuit. Orchard CC apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Mid Ulster GP Sunday 24th April
The Mid Ulster GP promoted by Harps Cycling Club will be held on Sunday 24th April 2016. Harps CC will be promoting racing for all categories so it will be a busy day for the club.… Read more

All Change as Glendinning Takes Yellow in Lakeland

bThe Lakeland 2 Day continued on Saturday afternoon  with a 4km time trial. Tadgh DeBarra  (Comeragh CC) held a twenty three second advantage over nearest rival Eddie Brennan (Dublin Wheelers) and a further thirteen seconds over the remaining field. It seemed certain that he would retain this lead going into Sunday’s stage but as in all things bike related nothing is ever set in stone.

Mark Glendinning of Spires CC put in a tremendous effort to record a 5’55.27 to take the stage victory.William McCormack (St Tiernans ) took second and was the only other rider to go under 6 minutes.… Read more

Youth Cycling News

A lot of youth development work going on in the North West at the moment with the popular North West Youth League promoted by Omagh Wheelers, Errigal CC and Donegal Bay CC. Omagh Wheelers are also starting a series of time trials for youth riders. (more details at the end of this article.)  This is also the weekend of Rás na nÓg, the two day stage race for youth riders.
