Ulster Riders Excel in Bohermeen

9Ulster riders have been showing their ability at the Bohermeen Races.  Craig McAuley (Caldwell Cycles) won the Waller Cup, Claire McIlwaine (Phoenix CC) won the Women's National Series race at the same event and Nathan Mullan (Dromara CC) was victorious in the Thomas Tuite Cup with Newry Wheelers rider, Jude Sands,  in second place. In the Under 16 event it was Errigal's PJ Doogan who won ahead of a strong field while his brother Odhran was third in the Under 14 race. Well done to all.… Read more

Lots of Winners at Mid Ulster GP

1Harps Cycling Club had a busy day today when they promoted races for all categories from Youth through to Masters and Women.The youth racing took place in the morning along and we will bring you the results as soon as we have them. The Women and Masters racing saw Neil McCartan of Powerhouse Sport continue his winning streak and take first place. Seamus Walsh (Phoenix CC) who has been riding very strongly in recent races, took second ahead of Finbarr Dooey of Dunloy CC.

In the women's race it was strong woman Katharine Smyth of Team Madigan who took the sprint ahead of Mairead McCrory of Carn Wheelers and Lorraine Mularkey of Emyvale CC.… Read more

Tour of the Mournes Live for Entry Tomorrow Friday 22nd

The Tour of the Mournes which takes place on Sunday 8th. May goes live on entry Central tomorrow, Friday 22nd April at 7.00pm. This very popular race caters for A1 to A3 riders. However preference will be given to A1 and A2 riders as this event receives full support from the PSNI as it wends its way around Co Down. This year the promoters of the event, Newry Wheelers, have selected a slightly different route  - see https://www.strava.com/routes/47048477

Weekend Road and Off Road Competitive Events

Orchard CC TT Cancelled
The Orchard CC promoted Time Trial which was due to take place on Saturday 23rd April has been cancelled. This is because the Tandragee 100 is taking place on that day on the same circuit. Orchard CC apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Mid Ulster GP Sunday 24th April
The Mid Ulster GP promoted by Harps Cycling Club will be held on Sunday 24th April 2016. Harps CC will be promoting racing for all categories so it will be a busy day for the club.… Read more

Armagh Crit and Groucho’s GP Opening Soon

2016 Armagh City Criterium Wednesday 4th May
The 2016 Armagh City Criterium for A4 riders will open for entry on Wednesday the 20th of April at 9.00pm and will stay open until Friday the 29th of April at 11:30pm. This year the promoting club have  opted for 'Race Pass' as their online registration portal. Entry is limited to 80 riders all of who must hold a Full Competition A4 Licence. This was a very exciting event last year a riders completed laps around the famous Armagh City Mall.… Read more

Chivers Takes Lakeland 2 day in Style

acAndrew Chivers of North Down took the polkadot jersey on Day 1 of the Lakeland 2 Day Stage race. He held on to that jersey today but went one better by ousting the opposition, win the stage and claim the overall Yellow Jersey. Going into the stage Chivers was 15 seconds down on the leader, Mark Glendinning of Spires CC.

Today was always going to suit the climbers as the course included two KoH primes and the race finished on a a steep climb at Doon.… Read more

All Change as Glendinning Takes Yellow in Lakeland

bThe Lakeland 2 Day continued on Saturday afternoon  with a 4km time trial. Tadgh DeBarra  (Comeragh CC) held a twenty three second advantage over nearest rival Eddie Brennan (Dublin Wheelers) and a further thirteen seconds over the remaining field. It seemed certain that he would retain this lead going into Sunday’s stage but as in all things bike related nothing is ever set in stone.

Mark Glendinning of Spires CC put in a tremendous effort to record a 5’55.27 to take the stage victory.William McCormack (St Tiernans ) took second and was the only other rider to go under 6 minutes.… Read more

De Barra in Yellow in Lakeland 2 Day

aThe Lakeland 2 Day got off to a fine start on Saturday morning as the riders took to the roads around Lisnaskea  in dry but cool conditions. This first stage was 90km with two King of the Hills primes to contest.

The first of these was taken by home rider Conor Sprice from Aaron McQuaid of Emyvale and Andrew Chivers (North Down). The bunch were setting a fast pace and remained in close contact until they tackled the second KOH where the peloton began to fragment.… Read more

Clogher Valley GP Opens Tonight at 9pm

Entry for the Clogher Valley GP opens this evening at 9pm. The event, promoted by Clogher Valley Wheelers takes place on Sunday 1st May 2016, with racing taking place in and around Ballygawley, County Tyrone.  After last season’s hugely successful event, CVW will be promoting five races around the 15 mile course, adding an A2 only race as well as a combined race for Women and Masters. The A2 and A3 competitions will complete four laps of the course, A4 racers will cover three laps while the Masters and Ladies will race two circuits.… Read more

Youth Cycling News

A lot of youth development work going on in the North West at the moment with the popular North West Youth League promoted by Omagh Wheelers, Errigal CC and Donegal Bay CC. Omagh Wheelers are also starting a series of time trials for youth riders. (more details at the end of this article.)  This is also the weekend of Rás na nÓg, the two day stage race for youth riders. Staying with the North West, Strabance Lifford are the latest club to encourage and develop a Youth Section within their club.… Read more
