Big Turnout for Foyle’s CX Event

winOver 300 riders participated in the 4th round of the Ulster Cyclo-cross League which were held in St Columb’s Park, Derry, on Sunday 30thOctober. The class of Asea Wheelworx rider Roger Aiken was there to be enjoyed, as he won the CX ‘A’ Race in a time of 53:31 against stiffcompetition from Barry Kellett of Dromara Cycling Club (Co. Down) and Graham Boyd of Xmtb McConvey Cycles (Belfast). Foyle Cycling Club’s Ronan McLaughlin came in 11th in the ‘A’ race in a time of 58:03.

Omagh Wheelers Host Girls Only Development Event

eileenOn Saturday 29th October Omagh Wheelers will host a very special "Girls Development Event". Eileen Burns, one of Ireland's top female cyclists  who is just back from the Euro Championships, will be attendance for the morning session. Eileen is a fantastic cyclist and a wonderful ambassador for women's cycling. She is also the holder of two national Time Trial records and has been victorious in the last two Omagh Three Day Stage Races winning the coveted Pink Jersey for leading woman.

Eileen has been back and forward to races in Britain and has represented both Ireland and Ulster
This is a wonderful opportunity for youth girls and visitors from neighbouring clubs to learn from one of the best women riders in the country.

Halloween Howl Mountain Bike Event Sunday 30th October

gapTir Chonaill Gap Cycling Club is holding a mountain bike event around the hills of Glenties at the end of the month. Registration will take place at 12 noon at Glenties Community Centre, on Sunday 30th of October, with the event getting underway at 1.00pm.The participants have to ride down the steps beside the Garda station in Glenties to start off this event in style. The pace will then be controlled up the Glen of Glenties road for three and a half miles. From this point they’re on their own as they turn off the road and start climbing the mountain, a climb sure to make the riders glad when they have reached the top.… Read more

Round 4 Ulster CX Series Sunday 30th October

Round 4 of the 2016 Ulster Cyclo-cross Series takes place at St. Columb's Park in Derry on Sunday 30th October promoted by Foyle CC. The is the second year that Foyle CC has held a cross race at the park which boasts great variety in terrain. Sign on, showers and food will be in the Foyle Centre - a superb venue. As it is almost Halloween there will be lots of Halloween themes going on during the day. Sign on is open and closes on Friday at 8 pm. Read more

Great Day at Final Round of Omagh Youth Programme

3The Hugh Mc Cann Development League final round and  Capital Reinforcement time trial league Award Presentations were held at the weekend in Omagh. Omagh Wheelers have been running youth programmes for a number of years and the number of youth involved has continued to grow. This year they added youth specific time trials to their programme as well as youth racing.

There was a terrific turnout of parents and supporters and the key message was encouragement and praise for all participants. This was also reflected in the awards where all the youth riders were rewarded for their efforts.… Read more

Lady Dixon Host Cyclocross on Sunday

Phoenix Cycling Club will be hosting Round 3 of the Ulster Cyclo-cross series at Lady Dixon Park in Belfast on Sunday 16 October 2016.  The club has used this venue over the past 5 years and has seen some great racing around this picturesque venue.  The club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their continued support.  Racing takes place in the upper area of the park, close to the Malone Road, with great vistas of beautifully laid out flower beds, walled gardens and meadows. The rolling hills make this an excellent venue for cross racing which should lead to some exciting battles all through the riders.  … Read more

Great Day at Cyclocross in Falls Park

aVC Glendale pulled out all the stops on Sunday to provide a great day's racing for young and old. The cyclocross course included tarmacked areas, steps, and mucky hills which saw a few riders take a tumble. Glendale also managed to turn on the sunshine and it was like a summer's day with temperatures in the 20's. Race director, Brendan Doherty, was hard at work for weeks and spent all day Friday and Saturday in the park digging pits, putting steps in place and generally getting everything set up.… Read more

Round 2 Ulster Cyclocross League Sunday 2nd Oct

VC Glendale is proud to host for the third year running the very popular Race of the Falling Leaves GP which is Round 2 in the Ulster Cyclo-Cross league. The circuit is located in the beautiful surroundings of Falls Park in the heart of West Belfast. This stunning location was the host to some fine racing last year and received warm reviews from anyone who rode the event. All the races use the tarmac road at the bottom of the park for the start of the races and whilst the youth riders have their own circuits.… Read more

Big Turnout for Round 1 CX League

raOver 300 riders took part on Friday night in the Kinning Cyclocross Series and today there were over 350 riders participating in the first round of the Ulster Cyclocross league. This first round was promoted by Apollo CT at Lurgan Park.

It was a busy day for the Apollo club who had marshalls at all key positions who had to put up with the rain. As well as the main CX races there were races for youth riders from U6 upwards and an mtb support race as well.… Read more

Kinning CX Training Booked Out

aOrangefield held host to Kinning Cycles Cyclocross Training day yesterday. The event was well supported by several different clubs and The Belgian project was there to capture it all. The great sunshine attracted a lot more than expected. The group was split in two. Glenn lead one group that worked on dismounts, remounts  and barriers. Andrew Patton took the other group to a typical hairpin section. This gave riders the opportunity to look at different racing lines through basic corners and how to ride fast and defensive.… Read more
