Round 6 Ulster Cyclocross Series Sunday 17th November

1Round Six of the Ulster Cyclocross Season will take place on Sunday 17th November in Ormeau Park, Belfast hosted by XMTB/McConvey Cycles. Xmtb McConvey Cycles is grateful to Belfast City Council for the use of Ormeau Park for their cyclo-cross race.

The course is completely different to previous years and has been made more suitable for cross bikes.  The start/finish area has been moved down beside the football pitches.  From the start, the riders will loop up onto the grass along the top of the course before a flowing wooded section leading to a fast run along a gravel path then a short, technical climb that will probably have to be ran up.  … Read more

Omagh Wheelers Youth Training Day

On Saturday 16th November, Omagh wheelers cycling club are hosting a youth training event. The training event caters for all cyclists aged between 13-16 years old. Based at youth sport Omagh, the training consists of being assessed on the track before being separated into groups for a structured road session. Experienced cyclists from Omagh wheelers and further field will be on hand to ensure safety for all cyclists. They will also be able to provide help and advice through out the day.

Mighty Craic at Team Building Day

aDespite the icy road conditions this morning fifteen young Cycling Ulster riders managed to make it in to the Dundonald Ice Bowl to begin a series of activities.

Ciara Doogan and Amy Harkin even travelled all the way from Donegal to attend.

First on the agenda was the ice skating which got the hearts pumping as everyone tried to stay upright. Sean McNicholl and Nicola Oldham were old hands at this and were able to show off their skills.

Shenna McKiverigan was the best of the riders initially but Declan Mulholland, Conor McLoughlin and Jake Gray were determined to improve and by the time the session was ended they were well into the swing of it.… Read more

Cycling Ireland’s Male Talent Team 2020 Announced

Cycling Ireland has named the FBD Talent Team 2020 Squad, which will be unveiled at the Springfield Hotel, in Lucan, Dublin, next Saturday (9th November) in conjunction with their first training day as a group. The Talent Team 2020 was launched in 2011 with the aim of developing and guiding young riders, with the long-term goal of having a strong squad competing at the Olympic Games in 2020. This year’s squad is a mixture of new and experienced riders

Most sports experience a drop off in participation with young riders as they move into the senior ranks, and in cycling this is no exception.… Read more

Hardy Kids at Youth RT

DSC_0323The weather forecast looked as if it might put the doom on the David McCall Foundations Youth Fun Run but thankfully 25 hardy boys, girls and parents turned the gloomy sky into a bright one.

The David McCall Foundation's aim for events like this is to provide the kids and their families with an opportunity to get to know one another so they will look forward to future days out riding their bikes whatever the weather.

It also shows them that cycling gives the, a chance to meet friends again and this one did the trick as everyone had a good day out even though we had to cut short the distances due to the rain and wind, typically it calmed down 10 minutes after the start.… Read more

Youth Fun Run Saturday 2nd November

On Saturday the David McCall Foundation in conjuction with Maryland Wheelers will be running a  Youth Fun  Fun Run cycle starting at Crumlin Community Centre.

The day will cater for boys and girls from U16 to U12. The riders will be split into three groups according to age and will be accompanied on their rides by experienced cyclists. It will be a chance for the Youth cyclist to meet up and get to know each other and for the parents to have  a chat. Parents are welcome to join the cycling groups as well.… Read more

Great CX Promotion by Island Wheelers

8It was a return to Windmill Park in Dungannon for Round 3 of the Ulster Cyclo-cross series and it was Island Wheelers second time hosting a CX race at this venue.

The event last year was held in January and was a very muddy course but the organisers took on board some feedback and produced a more flowing and fun course this time.

The open grass area was laid out again as before with the start line for all events now set in the wide open middle section.  … Read more

Ulster Cyclocross Series Round 4 – Bangor

On Sunday 27th October North Down promote the fourth round of the Ulster Cyclocross series in Castle Park, Bangor. North Down CC has worked closely with Bangor Council to gain access to Castle Park after the recent development of the Aurora Leisure Complex with Northern Ireland's only 50 metre pool.

Castle Park has had a great history of cyclo-cross and mountain bike races over the years held by both North Down and Xmtb.  Access to the site has been restricted but the club is keen to reestablish this venue for off-road racing.  … Read more

Attention All Clubs Interested in Youth Development

There will be an open meeting this Wednesday 23rd October for clubs or individuals interested in promoting and developing youth cycling. The meeting will be held in Clann Eireann club rooms on Victoria Street , Lurgan from 8.15pm. The evening will take the format of informal discussion and planning  forums in order to take on board ideas and suggestions for the development of youth cycling.
