Calendar Issues

Youth Races in the Handbook
The details of all the youth races across the varies categories U12, U14, U16 were not transferred across to the generic ‘Youth’ listing on the yearbook. This mistake was not picked up at the time and Cycling Ireland apologises for any inconvenience that this has caused in planning events for young riders.

These events have been recorded on the online event system. Cycling Ireland will be able to display these events separately via a dedicated youth calendar which will be available via the Cycling Ireland website early next week.… Read more

XMTB Continue Development Plans

aFollowing on from the success of last year, the XMTB McConvey Cycles team has now been able to step up a level. A newly formed development team will act as a feeder for the established race team. The development team will provide support to U14 and U16 riders, these riders will then be able to progress to the race team when they enter the junior ranks.

The race team will be targeting British MTB series, commonwealth games selection, Irish NPS along with the Ulster league. Team manager, Lance McCarthy expressed his delight at the team’s performance, “I was pleased with the team’s performance last year, we achieved medals in the Irish and Ulster championships along with several high quality performances which we hope to build on in 2014.… Read more

Off-road racing at Kilbroney this weekend

rostrevor_mtb_festival_2014_logo_120 Kilbroney Park will again be a hive of activity this weekend, 9th March, for the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Festival. Dromara CC and ChainReaction Cycle Club have joined together for the second year of this festival. Dromara CC is hosting Round 1 of the 2014 Ulster XC series (cross-country race - XC) and CRC is hosting Round 1 of the IDMS series (downhill - DH). … Read more

Off Road Events This Weekend

xmtbThe final round of the XMTB McConvey Cycles Spring Series takes place this coming Sunday 2nd March. Primarily aimed at the youth riders from the Under 8s up to the Under 16s there s also racing for Seniors.

The club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their support and ongoing permission to use the venue. Sign on will open on the day at 9:30 am and will close 15 minutes before the start of each race. The Under 6 race will kick off at 10.30am

Weekend Road Events

This weekend sees two road races, a youth event and a Reliabiliy Trial take place. The full details are as follows.
Spires GP Saturday 1st March 2014
On Saturday the 1st of March, Spires CC (Magherafelt) will be holding their second annual Grand Prix road race with new race head quarters based in the Ballyronan Marina Centre.

The event will feature two separate races on the Ballyronan/ ‘three road ends’/ Loup circuit.

The event has already attracted a strong field including the top club riders from around the Provence with riders from Carn Wheelers, East Antrim Audi and East Tyrone CC all taking part.… Read more

Xmtb McConvey Cycles – Spring Series – Round 2

It was a return to Ormeau Park for Round 2 of the Xmtb McConvey Cycles spring series. This event was almost not going to go ahead as the course from the previous round had been very mucky and the weather during the week had not helped it.  Thankfully Mark Harvey and Robbie Lamont came up with a new course design that avoided the worst of the areas from the previous week but still left a good challenging circuit for all riders.

Errigal Youth Event and Emyvale Reliability Trial

errErriagal CC has decided to run this series in order that their youth cyclists would have a number of races in Ulster to attend races within easy travelling distance and to cut down on the necessity to travel great distance in order to get racing experience.

The club would welcome young riders from other parts of the country to come along and take part.

We would encourage other Ulster clubs to follow Errigal's example and promote youth racing. It is particularly beneficial when clubs promote stand alone youth events.… Read more

Xmtb McConvey Cycles – Spring Series – Round 1 Report

aRound 1 of the 2014 Mountain Bike Spring Series hosted by Xmtb McConvey Cycles took place at Ormeau Park on the 16 February.

The weather in the lead up to the race had been awful with heavy rain, strong winds and then a sharp frost on the morning of the race.

Thankfully the day itself was dry, bright with blue skies, cold but hardly a breath of wind.

Mark Harvey was chief course designer and had created a new set up for all ages moving the course away from the traditional tarmac start and incorporating more twists and turns among the trees.  … Read more

Omagh’s Valentine’s Run a Monumental Success

aOn Sunday 16th February, Omagh Wheelers cycling club held their annual reliability trial along side a Valentine’s leisure cycle at Youthsport Omagh.

The reliability trial consisted of either a 50 or 70 mile route choice over demanding terrain which required a good level of fitness.

The valentine’s cycle was held in a similar fashion in that there was a choice of either a 30 or 50 mile cycle. The valentine run was aimed at all cyclists with varying fitness levels. Both events were carefully controlled by experienced members of Omagh Wheelers to make sure no individual were left by themselves.… Read more

XMTB Spring MTB Series Starts Sunday – Youth and Senior Events

xmtbXMTB McConvey Cycles are hosting a series of 3 mountain bike races aimed primarily at the youth riders from the Under 8s up to the Under 16s starting on Sunday 16 February 2014.

The club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their support and ongoing permission to use the venue.
